Toll Road and Airfare Discounts Reflect Government’s Concern for Holiday Travelers
JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, through the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Kemenko IPK), has confirmed the implementation of a 20% toll road tariff discount during the Eid al-Adha and school holiday periods. This initiative is part of a broader stimulus effort aimed at easing the financial burden on citizens and stimulating economic growth.
Herzaky Mahendra Putra, Special Staff for Communication and Public Information at Kemenko IPK, emphasized that the policy is designed to ensure that state spending yields tangible benefits for the people.
“We want to see real stimulus effects this June, especially in ways that help the public. We also aim to boost economic activity,” Herzaky stated.
He further underlined the government’s commitment to maximizing the impact of each rupiah spent from the state budget.
“Every rupiah disbursed by the government should truly benefit the people,” he added.
The 20% toll discount will be applied for ten days across three periods: Eid al-Adha (June 6–9), the start of school holidays (June 27–29), and the end of school holidays (July 11–13).
President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, Rivan Achmad Purwantono, announced that the toll discount will be applied to several strategic routes, including the Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road, MBZ Elevated Road, Palimanan–Kanci, Batang–Semarang, and Pandaan–Malang in the Trans-Java network, as well as Belmera and MKTT toll roads in Trans-Sumatra.
“A total of ten toll road segments across Trans-Java and Trans-Sumatra will benefit from the tariff discount,” Rivan noted.
The discount applies to all vehicle categories, specifically for through traffic. The stimulus is expected to ease transportation costs and support travel activities during the holiday season, whether for homecoming or tourism.
In addition to toll roads, the government has rolled out massive discounts across other modes of transportation—including trains, airplanes, and sea transport—starting Wednesday, June 4.
Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati explained that the policy is part of the economic stimulus package launched by President Prabowo Subianto.
“This transport discount covers all modes—land, sea, air, and toll roads. The goal is to encourage greater mobility and consumption among the public,” she said.
Sri Mulyani emphasized that toll discounts are not subject to VAT and that the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has instructed toll road operators to adjust their tariffs in accordance with the policy. *
