The movement to spread radicalism in Indonesia is increasingly worrying, this is because the movement began to be activated in the campus environment. Although organizations that oppose the ideology of Pancasila have been dissolved, the desire to change the ideology still exists and is targeting academics. The government will involve many parties in efforts to deradicalize. Indonesian President Joko Widodo gave special attention to radical movements that could threaten the unity of the nation and state. He requested that his staff make serious efforts in preventing the movement.

The entry of radical groups also began with the movement of the Muslim Brotherhood. They moved smoothly and carefully during the New Order. Their target is the world of education. Campus seems to be the target because that’s where they can master scholarships for their regeneration program. A few years later, after the Muslim Brotherhood, Salafi Wahabis and Hizb ut-Thahrir entered the campuses. They form exclusive ties and massively spread their ideology.

How to spread their ideology is fairly interesting, not only because of the level of discussion. But all facilities are provided; ranging from boarding, monthly money to be introduced to women who are members to be married. It shows that the problem of radicalism has existed for a long time, although it is not visible, but their silent movements have penetrated in various circles including students to civil servants. The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said, to eradicate radicalism he would make efforts with cross-ministries, such as the Ministry of PMK which oversees the field of ideological and cultural resilience.

The thing emphasized by Mahfud is that radical groups do not refer to certain groups. He also appealed to the idea that radical people are a religious group must be changed. Mahfud stressed that radicalism is an understanding that wants to change the basis and ideology of the state by going against the rules, then damaging the new generation of thinking. Whether a Muslim or not a Muslim if you do that, it should be called radical. Acts of terrorism are also increasingly increasing. These radical groups even involve women and children in carrying out terror. Not only that, the target has even reached state officials, such as the case of the stabbing of former Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security, Wiranto, which was stabbed by Abu Rara who was part of the JAD group.

Meanwhile, Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi has a way to overcome radicalism. To overcome radical notions of entering the community, according to Fachrul, the Ministry of Religion will inspect mosques and give warnings to mosque administrators. Fachrul also stated that he would act decisively against the state civil servants, employees of BUMN or employees in other government circles who were infected with radical ideas. The Minister of Religion also stressed that each ASN must have the same view and attitude in loving the Homeland. Fachrul reminded the official not to repeat his actions.

Control of ASN exposed to radicalism also seems to get support from BNPT and BPIP who have committed to coordinate with each other in identifying the potential of radicalism. On the other hand, people who want to register for the selection of 2019 civil servant candidates (CPNS) must learn a new thing to answer the questions in the Basic Competency selection stage, this is knowledge about anti-radicalism. Head of the Bima Haria Wibisana State Staffing Agency (BKN) said this was done to prevent ASN from being exposed to radicalism.

He already has the desire to include questions relating to anti-radicalism like that. Although the portion of questions about radicalism is only a few and will be included in the SKD in the section on the National Insight Test (TWK). The latent danger of radicalism, if left unchecked, will easily damage the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation, so that radical ideas should be prevented as early as possible. The government should also remain focused on the attacks from radical groups. Because, do not rule out the possibility, radical groups will attack when the government is intensively to reduce the spread of radical ideas. Meanwhile the public must also remain vigilant with the call to anti against Pancasila, not to let radical understandings undermine the sense of unity in the Republic of Indonesia.
