Jakarta – Head of Division II PB PON Roy Letlora guarantees the implementation of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021 in Papua will take place safely. The reason is that the PB PON XX committee has anticipated things that are not desirable since long ago.
“This PON has been postponed for a year. This security issue is very sensitive, we have prepared it 4 years ago,” said Roy in the Elshinta dialogue program, Tuesday (21/9).
According to Roy, securing the XX PON does not only involve the police but also the TNI, Satpol PP, even indigenous Papuans around the PON venue and involves PAM Swakarsa. The approach uses PAM Swakarsa to embrace and anticipate dissenting groups.
Other security, said Roy, using drones and helicopters. The PON XX committee and volunteers involved have also gone through Papua Police training. The purpose of the training is to prevent indications of being involved in a prohibited group.
He added that security was also tightened on the audience with the amount of 25 percent as stipulated. The audience uses an online ticketing system. The online system is meant to detect incoming viewers. The security forces will comb the audience whether they are on the list of people to watch out for until they are banned.

Regarding the attack by the Papuan separatist terrorist group (KST) against health workers in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua, according to Roy, the location is very far from the PON venue. However, Roy called it a warning, a diversion so that the security forces focus on the District.
Roy said the movement carried out by the group was deliberately made because the issue of Papua is very sensitive at home and abroad. Moreover, at the opening of the PON there were 16 countries present. Thus, the issue was made to the attention of other countries.
Deputy VII of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Wawan Hari Purwanto stated that BIN continues to anticipate various changes and developments, including security for athletes and security support equipment.
“Monitoring and the number of security are increased and anticipate other disturbances,” said Wawan.
Another effort, according to Wawan, is cooperation with stakeholders, local governments, and security forces for early detection.
