The capital city of Indonesia will be moved to East Kalimantan in 2024 and various preparations are starting from now on. The community supports the relocation because it is believed to be able to increase the distribution of development in various parts of Indonesia.
Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. This metropolitan city was originally called Batavia, and has always been known as a densely populated area and is often jammed. The population of Jakarta is very large, ranging from permanent residents to those who commute because they work there but live in Bogor or other places. To the extent that there is a song entitled: Who told you to come to Jakarta? The reason is because the capital is getting crowded.
To overcome congestion in Jakarta, the government will move the capital city, from Java to East Kalimantan, to be precise in North Penajam Paser. It is hoped that this transfer will not surprise the public because the purpose is good, and it is still relatively spacious and quiet, making it suitable as a capital city.
The relocation of the nation’s capital will begin in 2024 but from this year it has been prepared. The toll road to Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency will be built to facilitate mobility.
Assistant II for Development and Economic Affairs, Regional Secretary for North Penajam Paser Regency, Ahmad Usman, stated that infrastructure development in the new capital city was continuing. Later in Penajam, the KIPP (Central Government Area) will be built, which consists of the presidential palace, government headquarters, housing for government employees and the TNI/Polri, and the general public.
The relocation of the capital city will be carried out in stages, so not all of the city’s bedhols will go to Kalimantan. The community also agreed to the transfer because it would solve the problem of congestion in Jakarta which has been chronic and greatly disrupted mobility. The reason is because government offices have been moved so that congestion due to the density of government employees on the streets has also moved.
We don’t have to think about moving the capital city, because the goal is really good. After all, since the old order era, Bung Karno had wanted to move the capital city to Palangkaraya, Kalimantan, because it was in the middle of Indonesia and raised the principle of justice. The area of Borneo is also relatively quiet, so the island is indeed suitable to be the capital city of our country.
The relocation of the capital city also does not have to make other ministry employees or civil servants panic because they are forced to move to Kalimantan. The reason is, there are state institutions that will not be moved to the new capital city. This is regulated in the IKN Bill, which has not been formalized because it has not been fixed 100%.
Later, even though the capital was moved to Penajam Paser Utara, DKI Jakarta Province would still have the position as the capital city. This does not need to be confusing because it can be revised after a new presidential regulation appears. Or it could be like Malaysia, where the state capital and government capital are in different cities, just wait for the Presidential Decree to be issued by President Jokowi.
Moving the capital city is something urgent, and the process starts now, even though it is still a pandemic. The reason is, if Jakarta is too crowded, it will cause social problems. Starting from the potential for criminal acts to the number of unemployed. However, when part of the population is moved to East Kalimantan, these problems can be overcome, because competition is reduced.
The capital city of Indonesia will be moved to Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan. This is not just a discourse, but there has been careful planning, including the development of infrastructure and government complexes. Moving the capital city is not something strange because it can actually solve various problems in Jakarta.
