JAKARTA – Intelligence expert Ridlwan Habib said, to anticipate terrorism cases ahead of the 2023 Christmas and New Year celebrations, the government must monitor convicts (convicts) and former terrorism convicts with red status. This prisoner with red status does not want to interact with the government and does not want to take part in the deradicalization program carried out by the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT).

“This must be prepared, the list is recorded, where the position is sought now,” he said.

If they are then recorded and their whereabouts are known, said Ridlwan, a task force must be prepared to pursue them. At least if they’re not doing anything wrong, they’re still being watched. This is a mitigation so that there are no more incidents like the Astana Anyar Police.

According to Ridlwan, the government also needs to make regulations requiring terrorist convicts to take part in the BNPT deradicalization program. This de-radicalization will return misunderstandings and make these convicts return to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

“This is a matter of belief where we can change that person’s belief. An art that must be carried out in the long term and with full awareness,” he explained.

Ridlwan stated that the deradicalization program that terrorist convicts are participating in has basically seen its impact. He mentioned that there are many former terrorist convicts who have not bombed anymore, some have left prison to become kebab sellers, into meatball businesses, and become ustadz.

“Many are doing well out of jail,” said Ridlwan.

In addition, according to Ridwan, terrorism convicts who have participated in the deradicalization program and eventually returned to society, the BNPT has provided capital assistance to start businesses so that they can socialize well in society, within the corridors of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
