Jakarta – The Constitutional Court’s decision to stipulate that the 2024 election system is open proportional allows election organizers and participants to focus on preparing for the preparation for contestation for the presidential and legislative elections in 2024.

Indostrategic Executive Director, Dr. Khoirul Umamm M.Ec. said that the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the election system must be appreciated.

In addition, he continued, the readiness of the election organizers was quite good. Most importantly, disturbances related to elements trying to play the role of law enforcement must be effectively anticipated and neutralized.

“The government and the DPR must be committed to regulations on holding elections every 5 years so that the stages of the election run smoothly.” Dr. said Khoirul in an interview with Elshinta radio, Friday (16/6)

According to Dr. Khoirul, good escort by civil society, activists, students, and media networks is needed to guarantee the neutrality and independence of law enforcement in handling election disputes.

“If the elections run fairly, the election products will also be much healthier, both democratically and in future implementation,” said Dr. Khoirul.

He added that the PDIP movement which was quite intense by opening communication to a number of political parties was considered positive because it was a sign of the wide spectrum of political communication, as well as strengthening the politics of reconciliation.

“The neutrality of election organizers will determine the credibility of the election results. The public will believe if the Election organizers are impartial and do not become an extension of political interests.” he said.

In the dialogue with Elshinta, a political observer and Professor of Political Science at Paramadina University, he added that commitment from all parties is needed so that post-election disputes, both in the context of the Presidential and Legislative Elections, do not cause political distrust from the public. So that elections must be carried out in conditions of mature political literacy of society.

All parties must also be aware and understand the need to minimize the practice of money politics and identity politics.

“Identity politics presents polarization, so it has the potential to divide the nation and we have to watch out for it,” said Dr. Khoirul.

People’s choices should not be driven by information that is flooded with hoaxes, fake news, and hate speech which are highly unproductive for the development of Indonesian democracy. Religious leaders and religious mass organizations must also stand on the basis of moderation so that they do not get carried away with practical politics, which are only a means of winning political contests.
