Jakarta – DKI Jakarta hosted the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). This ASEAN parliamentary meeting took place for five days from 5 to 10 August 2023, with delegates from ASEAN member countries attending to discuss issues related to the theme “Responsive Parliaments for a Stable and Prosperous ASEAN.”

Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Putu Supadma Rudana, previously emphasized the importance of the role of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPA) in order to maintain the stability of the ASEAN region.

“We in Parliament want to complete, how high growth must be guarded by a green economy, sustainable or sustainable growth. Inclusive people are involved in economic growth and a maintained environment,” he said.

Putu reminded that there should not be one country that has high growth, instead it creates inequality.

“The people of one country in ASEAN may not get the benefits of an increase in the economy, while the people of other ASEAN countries only get welfare from an increase in the economy of the ASEAN region,” he added.

So, the 44th General Assembly of AIPA or The 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPA) in Jakarta in August 2023 will later aim to see how AIPA can politically promote regional stability.

“We must be able to independently oversee all problems or challenges in the ASEAN region, to maintain political stability, security and also to maintain the welfare of the region,” said Putu.

ASEAN’s success in achieving prosperity and stability is highly dependent on joint efforts and coordination between ASEAN regional parliaments. A number of parties in the host city for the implementation of AIPA have also prepared all the necessary safeguards.

Head of the General Bureau of the Secretariat General of the DPR RI, Rudi Rochmansyah, together with the Police Headquarters, Polda Metro Jaya, Korlantas, BAIS, BIN, Paspampres and venue management have prepared security for the 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly.

“The General Bureau of the Secretariat General of the DPR RI together with all levels of the security apparatus are ready to secure the arrival and departure of the AIPA delegation including observer countries who will visit,” he said.

For information, AIPA members previously consisted of five countries that initiated it, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia. But currently, AIPA already has 10 members with Timor Leste only as an observer. At the 44th AIPA General Assembly, Indonesia will propose a resolution on the application of the Five-Point Consensus to be implemented by all parliaments in ASEAN countries.
