World Bank Praises ASEAN for Successfully Eradicating Poverty, Even Since the Covid-19 Pandemic
JAKARTA — The World Bank commends ASEAN which is considered very successful in alleviating poverty, even this has continued to happen since the COVID-19 pandemic when other countries were having difficulties.
World Bank President, Ajay Banga said that overcoming poverty in the last 30 to 40 years has been very impressive.
There is the creation of new jobs which is an effort to eradicate poverty.
However, it turned out that the number of poor people had increased again during the COVID-19 pandemic because many sectors with large employment opportunities had to stop, causing layoffs.
However, things are very different in ASEAN, because managing to get out of this condition among other countries in the world is still difficult.
“But ASEAN is an exception, which has managed to get out of this condition, but many countries in the world are experiencing an increase in poverty rates,” said Banga.
As stated on the official ASEAN website in the last two decades, all regional countries have experienced a very steady decline in poverty.
Data shows that the poverty rate was 47 percent in 1990 and continued to decrease to just 15 percent in 2015.
There are several ways in which ASEAN is encouraging a multi-sectoral and integrated approach to eradicate poverty and also realize the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Action research, capacity building initiatives and platforms for knowledge and exchange have been established to facilitate dialogue among various stakeholders to eradicate poverty and promote rural development.
The President of the World Bank also mentioned how several other problems must be a common focus to be resolved, such as climate change and food insecurity.
Of course, this problem is the vision and mission of the World Bank to be able to overcome it.
Still related to the implementation of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, on Wednesday (6/9) evening a gala dinner was also held together with high-ranking delegations from friendly countries at the Gelora Bung Karno City Forest.
Regarding this matter, Chef Arnold said that the menu prepared for heads of state would certainly be luxurious and delicious.
“The request is certain that the food must be luxurious, magnificent, delicious, delicious,” he added.
On the same occasion, Chef Gedan Septoadji stated that the chefs served typical Indonesian dishes.
In fact, he considers that Indonesian cuisine is very worthy of going international.
“Because we want to show Indonesian cuisine and Indonesian cuisine nowadays can go international, in terms of appearance, obviously from the taste it still tastes authentic,” he said.
