Jakarta – The 43rd ASEAN Summit (Summit) 2023 is taking place in Jakarta. Apart from being attended by leaders from Southeast Asian countries, the ASEAN Summit will also be attended by partner countries and international organizations. As host, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will chair 12 meetings of the 2023 ASEAN Summit, starting Tuesday, 5-7 September 2023.
“There are 12 meetings that will be chaired by President Jokowi. “Among them are the 43rd ASEAN Summit in plenary format, the 43rd ASEAN Summit in retreat format, the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, and the 24th ASEAN-South Korea Summit,” said the Director General of ASEAN Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sidharto also explained that the 43rd ASEAN Summit would also be attended by a number of international institutions. According to the plan, the 43rd Summit will invite the IMF and World Bank.
“And several other world organizations. “President Jokowi is also scheduled to lead a number of non-trial events,” he explained.
Furthermore, the opening of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, opening of the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum, gala dinner, social events. And the closing ceremony, as well as handing over the ASEAN Chair to Laos.
As the first agenda, President Jokowi will hold a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin in the Kakatua Room, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). After that, President Jokowi will lead the 26th ASEAN-PRC Summit which will be attended by leaders of ASEAN countries along with Premier of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Li Qiang.
President Jokowi will also chair the 24th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit which will also be attended by the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit together with Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Fumio Kishida.
In the afternoon, President Jokowi together with the leaders of ASEAN countries were scheduled to attend the 26th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit. The meeting, which will be held in Cenderawasih Room 3, will also be attended by the leaders of the PRC, Republic of Korea and Japan.
President Jokowi is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with United States Vice President Kamala Harris. Furthermore, President Jokowi and state leaders will attend the 11th ASEAN-US Summit which will also be held in Cenderawasih Room 3, JCC.
Furthermore, the ASEAN-Canada Summit will be held attended by the leaders of ASEAN countries with Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. In the evening, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo together with state leaders and companions will attend a dinner for the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
