The security forces are strongly committed to crushing KST Papua. If the separatist group continues to carry out acts of terror against the community, there will be a risk of slowing down development and investment in Papua. Therefore, the measurable eradication of KST Papua needs to receive support from all levels of society.
Previously, KST often carried out criminal acts and even killed civilians and village officials if they did not deposit money with them. They were involved in various disruptions to air traffic around the airport, shooting Brimob officers on patrol to death, shooting Satpos PP officers, burning down the DPRD’s official residence and residents’ kiosks until they were completely destroyed. Ironically, KST started many operations from Serambakon District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Mountains. The mountainous area, which should have been safe and peaceful, turned into a KST nest because of the limited reach of the state defense and security apparatus.
In response to this, security forces from TNI/Polri elements to the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) continue to make efforts to hunt down the remaining Papuan KST. Head of Cartenz Peace Operations, Police Commissioner Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, explained that in the last month the 2023 Peace Operation Task Force had succeeded in securing 3 KST members and 1 KST member was paralyzed.
He said that the 3 KST members who were arrested had their respective roles, namely as members of the KKB, suppliers of ammunition and weapons and suppliers of food to the KKB group in Nduga, Papua Mountains. Meanwhile, 1 KST who was successfully paralyzed was a member of the Bintang Mountains KST who had recently spread terror.
Previously, Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) said that his party fully supports the security forces in sending and deploying troops as security backup. This was in response to Kodap 35 Bintang Timur which spread terror by burning down the market and residents’ stalls in Yapimakot Village, Serambakon District, Bintang Mountains Regency.
He believes that the government, together with the TNI-Polri apparatus in Papua, must continue to strengthen security and guarding throughout the Papua region. This effort was carried out in addition to carrying out early detection of KST movements that wanted to disrupt security in the surrounding area.
Even so, there is one very important thing to emphasize, namely that in fact even at this moment, the Indonesian people absolutely do not want victims from any party, including indigenous Papuan civilians (OAP), or victims from the authorities themselves and even the same. Never let there be victims from opposing groups.
The reason is, because all parties are also human beings, even members of the separatist gang on Earth of Cenderawasih, they are also human beings and are still considered as brothers and sisters. Bamsoet also asked that solving the problem of separatist actions that continue to occur and are carried out by KST Papua should actually use a cultural and welfare approach.
Therefore, it is very important that in responding and trying to resolve the problem of terrorist gangs in Bumi Cenderawasih it must be done comprehensively, but on the other hand there must also be firm and measurable action.
Currently, the Indonesian nation continues to be faced with various problems regarding the existence and resistance that continues to be carried out by KST Papua. Therefore, it is absolutely mandatory to resolve acts of separatism in the Land of Papua using a comprehensive approach and methods so that it can be much more optimal.
The purpose of comprehensive action which also takes into account cultural and welfare approaches is not just to take direct action against KST Papua, but firm action must also be taken against various parties who take action regarding the misappropriation of Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds for Bumi Cenderawasih.
By taking firm action against all parties who misappropriate these funds, it will of course also help improve the welfare of all members of the OAP community themselves because these funds can be used properly for their welfare.
Touching on how so far the Government’s efforts have also collaborated with many parties including the local Provincial Government (Pemprov) in order to accelerate the welfare of the people in Papua, one of which is the steps taken by the Central Papua Provincial Government which has formed 4 (four) Task Forces (Satgas) .
The four task forces that were formed were the stunting handling task force, the extreme poverty handling task force, the inflation task force and also the unemployment handling task force. The government has given a strong commitment to continue to improve the prosperity of the community, so that many approaches have been taken to resolve the many cases of resistance on Earth of Cenderawasih.
Reflecting on the various things above, the Government has taken various methods to suppress acts of separatism in Papua, ranging from law enforcement to sustainable development in order to improve the welfare of the Papuan people. Therefore, the support of the Papuan people is needed for various national programs so that Papua’s progress can be achieved immediately.
