Bali – The maritime world will soon witness a long-awaited big event, the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum 2023 Summit. This prestigious event will be held in Bali, Indonesia, on 10-11 October.

Riny Modaso, Head of the AIS Forum Secretariat, explained that the AIS Forum was formed as a forum to overcome the challenges faced by countries consisting of islands and archipelagos.

“One example is climate change causing sea levels to rise. “This is where the AIS Forum sees that there needs to be a collective effort to overcome this issue,” said Riny.

The impact of climate change is causing sea levels to rise and to overcome this, the AIS Forum advocates for joint efforts in dealing with this issue.

Riny believes that collaboration and cooperation are considered key in dealing with these various problems and this is in line with the main theme of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, namely “Fostering Collaboration, Advancing Innovation for the Ocean and a Common Future” (Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future). Meanwhile, the three sub-themes of the forum are “Blue Economy; Our Oceans, Our Future; Solidarity”.

Furthermore, Riny also explained the four work focuses of the AIS Forum, including climate change adaptation and mitigation, disaster management, blue economy, handling plastic waste at sea, and good maritime governance.

“In its development, the AIS Forum participating countries collaborate and work together through programs carried out by the AIS Forum Secretariat. “In various work focus areas, the AIS Forum continues to facilitate efforts to strengthen solidarity between AIS countries,” added Riny.

Riny also emphasized that efforts to strengthen solidarity are reflected in various programs, such as Joint-Research in the field of research and development, as well as blue economy efforts through the empowerment and acceleration of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and startups in various AIS countries.

In order to echo the spirit of the AIS Forum Summit, the Ministry of Communication and Information has launched AISPedia, which contains information and materials from the 2023 AIS Forum Summit (KTT).

Usman Kansong, Director General of Information and Public Communication (Dirjen IKP) Kominfo, stated that it was important to widely circulate the 2023 AIS Forum Summit to the public.

“”We must also promote the 2023 AIS Forum Summit widely so that the public knows that Indonesia is currently the initiator for island and archipelagic countries to meet and discuss various important issues. “To strengthen the dissemination of information and its benefits for the nation and society, we present AISPedia,” stressed Usman.

Regarding preparations for welcoming guests, the Bali Province Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has prepared a special route to ensure the smooth immigration process at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Anggiat Napitupulu, Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, explained that there are at least two special booths that will be used and guarded by eight officers, with each booth having four officers.

“Arrival alone is crucial, while for departure there are 10 booths with two officers each,” said Anggiat.

Meanwhile, for delegates who have positions at the level of minister, head of government or head of state, their arrival will be processed through a special room in the VIP building.
