Highlight of the 2023 AIS Summit: President Joko Widodo Meets Heads of Island and Island States
Bali – In an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and hope, President Joko Widodo, who is familiarly called President Jokowi, attended the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Summit at BNDCC Bali.
On a number of occasions, Indonesian President Jokowi has often expressed his belief that by uniting and working together, countries can overcome various challenges and create new opportunities for growth and progress.
“With international support, AIS countries can be part of the solution,” said Jokowi.
Previously, Deputy for Coordination of Maritime Sovereignty and Energy, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, Jodi Mahardi, said the importance of the AIS Forum as a forum for island and archipelagic countries to contribute to bringing resolutions to global problems and raising voices and attention to island countries.
“This forum belongs to all island and archipelagic countries in the world, regardless of size, location and level of economic development. “This is a hope for all of us to be able to foster a sense of ownership, a desire to strengthen collaboration, and expand the impact of our collaboration to many other communities in various countries and regions,” said Jodi.
Island countries have unlimited potential to realize a brighter and more stable future, overcome various challenges and create new opportunities for growth and progress.
During one of the side events of the AIS Summit, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) launched the Seagrass Blue Carbon Mitigation Action Profile.
“This Seagrass Blue Carbon Mitigation Action Profile will also serve as a roadmap for Indonesia’s efforts to conserve and restore blue carbon habitats, increasing carbon storage potential for the benefit of our planet and future generations,” said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to Archipelagic and Island States Blue Economy High-Level Dialogue.
The launch of the document is part of the government’s strategy to tackle climate change and increase blue carbon potential.
The 2023 AIS Summit which will be held in Bali is expected to be an important milestone in efforts to strengthen solidarity and cooperation between archipelagic and island countries. Various strategic agendas and crucial issues were discussed, resulting in effective solutions and concrete action steps.
After the success of the two editions of the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo and Jakarta, world attention was once again focused on Indonesia. It is hoped that the 2023 AIS Summit will enable archipelago and island countries to collaborate so that the economy can grow quickly, inclusively, sustainably and be competitive. Making AIS countries have a more important position, not only for Indonesia, but also for the world.
