Indonesia, as a democratic country, is now facing an important moment in its political history as the 2024 General Election approaches. In this context, the Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) has emerged as a key element which is considered to have a crucial role in ensuring the success of the democratic party.
Some time ago, a webinar was held regarding Empowering FKUB to Support the Success of the Safe and Peaceful 2024 Election. During this momentum, all parties emphasized the important role of the FKUB in making the elections a success
Director General of Politics and Public Administration, Dr. Drs. Bahtiar, M.Sc., through the webinar, highlighted the unique strengths that FKUB has. FKUB is not only seen as an entity, but as a force that maintains the harmony of national life in Indonesia.
With 545 FKUB institutions spread across 34 provinces, 98 cities and 413 districts, Bahtiar encourages election organizers, including the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), to establish strong synergies with FKUB in various regions. According to him, this collaboration is the main key in overcoming potential vulnerabilities ahead of the 2024 elections.
Head of the Center for Religious Harmony (PKUB), Dr. H. Wawan Djunaedi, MA., strengthened Bahtiar’s ideas by emphasizing that FKUB has a strategic role in national activities, especially in the context of the 2024 Election.
With its members being religious figures who have donated their lives to maintain harmony, FKUB is expected to become a strategic partner for the government in maintaining harmony between religious communities.
The FKUB Empowerment Webinar, apart from being a place for discussion, is also a forum for regional governments (Pemda), KPU, and Bawaslu to communicate with FKUB throughout Indonesia. In this atmosphere, Bahtiar and Wawan encouraged FKUB to be actively involved in efforts to create a peaceful campaign ahead of the 2024 elections and spread messages of harmony between religious communities.
It is hoped that FKUB’s active participation can involve all levels of society, including religious institutions, in supporting the success of the 2024 elections. Thus, FKUB’s role is not only as a guardian of harmony at the local level, but also as an important element in maintaining the stability and integrity of the democratic process throughout Indonesia.
So, it is hoped that the presence of FKUB can make a positive contribution to creating safe, peaceful and equitable elections for all Indonesian people.
Southwest Papua Province, as an integral part of Indonesia, is taking part in ensuring the success of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) by collaborating with the Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB).

On 13-15 October 2023, FKUB facilitation activities in Sorong became a stage where all FKUB at the Southwest Papua Province and district/city levels participated actively.
Acting Regional Secretary for Southwest Papua, Edison Siagian, said that the main aim of this facilitation was to build a joint commitment with FKUB to support the successful holding of the 2024 General Election. This step was taken with the hope of creating better prosperity and harmony in the context of the General Election.
It is hoped that FKUB’s full participation will bring a deeper understanding of their strategic role in supporting the stages and supervision of the 2024 elections. As the election process progresses, anticipating potential conflicts becomes an urgent need.
It is hoped that FKUB’s involvement will not only minimize friction, but also ensure that the elections will take place in a safe and peaceful atmosphere.
Acting Regional Secretary Edison emphasized that FKUB’s active participation is very important because it involves religious harmony in the Southwest Papua region. Liber M Siagian, Acting Head of Kesbangpol for Southwest Papua, added that the aim of this activity was also to strengthen the role of FKUB in supporting preparations for the simultaneous elections in 2024.
