Hoax Video of President Jokowi’s Mandarin Speech Gives Multiple Interpretations and is Misleading
Jakarta-Hoax video circulating of President Jokowi giving a speech in Mandarin. The video sparked debate and concerns about potential hoaxes that could influence public opinion.
Observer and political communication expert from Pelita Harapan University (UPH), Emrus Sihombing, stated that this discovery confirmed that the video was the result of manipulation by artificial intelligence.
“The hoax video of President Jokowi giving a speech in Mandarin has also given rise to multiple interpretations which are prone to portraying it as if President Jokowi is part of the power of economic interests in China,” he added.
For this reason, he reminded the public to be alert and not easily influenced by hoax content circulating on social media. This was conveyed after the circulation of a video of President Joko Widodo’s speech in Mandarin.
Apart from that, Emrus asked the Ministry of Communication and Information to immediately take down the hoax video. “The Ministry of Communication and Information must massively explain the video of President Jokowi’s speech to the public space, which appears to be spoken in Mandarin. “In fact, ideally, a foreign language conveyed orally must also be accompanied by written text or running text as well,” stressed Emrus.
“The public must be very alert and increase their understanding of checking and reviewing information whose origins are unclear because it is very dangerous for national stability,” concluded Emrus
Previously, a hoax video circulated on social media showing President Joko Widodo giving a speech in Mandarin. From the search results, it was found that the video was an edit using Artificial Intelligence of the video of President Joko Widodo’s speech in 2015 at the Gala Dinner in the United States. Now this manipulated video has raised many questions about the ethics of using technology in the context of politics and elections.
The public from several social media users continues to urge the authorities to take firm action against the perpetrators of manipulation and distribution of these videos because they feel that hoaxes and false information can pose a serious threat to democracy and political stability.
