Reject Provocation and Create Post-Election Unity

72

Post-election, Indonesia is in an important period where efforts to maintain national stability and unity are crucial. In facing various post-election political dynamics, rejection of all forms of provocation is an absolute necessity.
After various campaigns and elections, it is time for all parties to put the interests of the country above all else. Awareness of the importance of maintaining unity, especially amidst differences in political views, will become a solid foundation for mutual progress.
In the midst of post-election challenges, the government, political parties and civil society have an important role in building national solidarity. This moment is not a time to strengthen polarization or conflict, but rather to build stronger bridges of dialogue and cooperation.
In its rich diversity, the true strength of the Indonesian nation lies in its ability to unite differences into a common strength in achieving common goals. Therefore, this challenge requires a joint commitment from all elements of society to reject all forms of provocation that could disturb the peace and unity that we have built.
Appreciation from various parties, both domestic and foreign, for the implementation of the 2024 elections must be a trigger for us to continue to maintain political stability. Even though the KPU is still in the recapitulation process and several regions are experiencing PSU, PSL and PSS, we must remain calm and wise in responding to the current political situation.
Executive Director of the Asian Network for Free Election (Anfrel), Rohana Hettiarachchi, expressed his appreciation for the KPU’s efforts in holding the fourth largest general election in the world administratively.
Likewise, the representative from the Tanzanian Parliament, Elibarki Immanuel Kingu, congratulated Indonesia for successfully holding one of the largest elections in the world with full credibility, transparency, democracy and peace. This appreciation confirms that the implementation of the 2024 General Election reflects a shared commitment to maintaining democracy.
However, on the other hand, we are faced with serious challenges in maintaining political and social stability after the 2024 elections. Society must be able to refrain from being provoked by provocation and spreading hoax news that can threaten harmony in our midst. The success of elections must not be damaged by unproductive political conflicts.
Not only that, caution in disseminating information, especially the truth of which cannot be verified, must also be prioritized. Spreading unverified information can worsen the situation and increase tensions among society. Don’t let us become part of the division because of spreading incorrect information.
University leaders in Indonesia have invited all parties to reunite after the 2024 Presidential Election. They believe that people have used their voting rights democratically. All presidential candidates, legislative candidates and participants in the 2024 elections need to be wise in awaiting the results of the vote count and recapitulation by the KPU. The current priority is to maintain harmony and peace.
Maintaining political stability and national unity after the elections is a shared responsibility. It is not only the responsibility of the government or electoral institutions, but also the responsibility of every individual in society. Our political maturity will be tested at times like these.
Previously, there was news about a number of University of Indonesia alumni who would stage a demonstration to reject indications of fraud in the 2024 presidential election. However, we must strongly reject all forms of provocation and prioritize dialogue as a means of resolving differences of opinion.
The chancellors also called for avoiding the spread of provocation, slander and fake news during the vote counting and recapitulation process. This message of peace was conveyed separately by the Chancellor of Airlangga University, Mohammad Nasih, the Chancellor of Hasanuddin University (Unhas), Jamaluddin, and the Chancellor of the State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Fatah Palembang, Nyanyu Khodijah.
Nasih stated that the five-yearly elections were a victory for the Indonesian people, not just for candidate pairs or political parties. He also congratulated all Indonesian citizens, regardless of their political choices in the 2024 elections. According to him, the winner in this election was not a particular candidate pair or political party, but rather all Indonesian people.
Rejecting provocation and optimizing unity after the 2024 elections is a common call for all Indonesian people. In maintaining national conduciveness, we have faced various challenges and trials. However, the enthusiasm to build a more advanced and sovereign Indonesia must remain burning in the hearts of every individual.

In this process, collaboration between the government, electoral institutions, civil society, academics, youth and religious leaders is very important. All parties must unite in maintaining political and social stability, and prioritize the values of unity and integrity.
By rejecting provocation and spreading hoaxes, we can prove that Indonesia is a country that is mature in carrying out the democratic process. By prioritizing applicable legal channels, we can resolve all differences fairly and peacefully.
The post-election momentum is the time for all of us to unite our determination and build a brilliant future. Let us face every challenge together with courage and integrity. By maintaining unity and integrity, we will be able to overcome all obstacles and achieve our common goals as a strong and sovereign Indonesian nation.
