Maintaining the Public Order and Security Situation, the Community Must Be Wary of Papuan KST Provocations

Papua is a province and an integral part of the Republic of Indonesia. The movement to separate Papua from the Republic of Indonesia is indeed a separatist movement that must be watched out for, this movement also seems to be asking for help from abroad by spreading the narrative that Papua deserves independence.
Papuan Youth Leader, Ali Kabiay, said that it was very unfortunate that the efforts of the Papuan Separatist and Terrorist Group (KST) were actually continuing to campaign for Papuan independence. This action is of course tantamount to insulting the democratic process that has been carried out by the Papuan people when voting in the Regional Election, Presidential Election, DPR Legislative Election process, where in fact native Papuans also vote in the democratic election process.
Not to mention that in the last three months, which is still the beginning of 2024, KST’s brutality has only gotten worse. This vicious group was recorded as having burned down 18 residents’ houses and 7 public facilities and government offices. They even sadistically killed 7 people consisting of 2 TNI, 3 Polri and 2 civilians.
Responding to this act of violence, the Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command (Pangkogabwilhan III), Lieutenant General Richard Tampubolon gave KST Papua an ultimatum to immediately stop their series of brutal actions in recent times. According to him, KST’s track record of inhumane crimes and barbarism has been clearly demonstrated, starting with the massacre of Indigenous Papuans (OAP) and migrant communities.
In maintaining the National Security and Security situation in Bumi Cendrawasih, Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri emphasized that TNI and Polri officers would not be provoked by various provocative actions carried out by KST. All TNI-Polri members present in Papua carry a mission to create peace. Therefore, when incidents of disturbance by KST occur, members of the TNI and Polri will deal with them firmly and in a measured manner.
Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Candra Kurniawan, S.E., M.M said that KST and its sympathizers continue to actively spread provocative news and fake news or hoaxes with the aim of inciting the public to fight against the Government and Security Forces, so that Papua’s welfare development is also hampered. Another pattern used by KST and its sympathizers is to force people to steal and confiscate weapons belonging to TNI and Polri officers who have firearms. However, if it doesn’t work, KST will kill the community.
Kapen Kogabwilhan III, Colonel Czi IGN Suriastawa appealed to the public to remain alert to this development and not be easily incited by provocations and fake news that is always spread by KST Papua via social media. Likewise, Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng also invited the people of Mimika not to follow provocations or calls for demonstrations by irresponsible individuals, including KST Papua.
The Indonesian People’s Love Movement (Gercin) invites the Papuan people to maintain conducive peace in the Land of Papua, and not be influenced by misguided issues or provocations that are deliberately inflamed to create political turmoil so that the Land of Papua smolders and burns with anarchic demonstrations .
Chairman of the People’s Movement for Love of Indonesia (Gercin) Papua, Hendrik Yance Udam, said that the Land of Papua should not be damaged by certain elements who exploit Papuan issues for personal, group and even foreign interests who want Papua’s position in the protracted political conflict. This could make the people in Papua suffer, suffer from hunger and become strangers in their own land. All forms of provocation are carried out by certain people, usually because they do not want Papua to remain peaceful and progress quickly.
The sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia in Papua must be established in the international world. The large amount of slanted news about Indonesia towards Indigenous Papuans is the reason for unconstitutional movements carried out by groups located abroad who do not understand and understand the current situation and conditions of development in Papua.
KST often spreads false information and provocations to create unrest in society. They want to trigger conflict and disrupt security stability. Therefore, we must be smart and not easily provoked by news that is not necessarily true. Any form of provocation and violent action will not bring anyone any benefit. We must reject and be alert to all forms of provocation and issues that are often spread by KST in virtual media.Maintaining the security situation and public order (Kamtibmas) is a shared responsibility. Support from traditional, religious, community and youth leaders to play an active role in promoting positive appeals to create a peaceful and safe Papua. Let’s build a more prosperous Papua by involving ourselves in doing positive things, including fighting provocations that are not beneficial for Papua’s future.
