Every five years, the Indonesian people have the opportunity to elect regional leaders who will represent their interests. However, ahead of the 2024 regional elections, we need to remain alert to the threat of radicalism which can disrupt stability and harmony in society.
Radicalism that seeks to change the social, political, or religious order by extreme means. Radicalism is not only limited to terrorist groups, but can also emerge in various sectors of society. In the context of regional elections, radicalism can have a negative impact on the democratic process and national and state life.
One of the dangers of radicalism is the polarization of society. When radicalism is rampant, society tends to split into opposing groups. This can trigger social conflict which has a negative impact on regional stability and security. Therefore, it is important for us to prevent and overcome radicalism ahead of the 2024 regional elections.
The government and related institutions must increase public understanding and awareness about the dangers of radicalism. Through effective educational campaigns, the public can understand the signs of radicalism and how to deal with it. Education about tolerance, diversity and democracy must also be improved so that society has a strong understanding of the importance of respecting differences and building harmony.
Cooperation between government, security institutions and civil society must be improved. The government needs to strengthen the role of security institutions in supervising and monitoring potentially radical activities. Meanwhile, civil society must also actively report suspicious activities to the authorities. With good cooperation, we can prevent and deal with the threat of radicalism more effectively.
Bhabinkamtibmas Lancang Island Seribu Islands, Brigadier Tulus Hidayat conducted a meeting with residents with the aim of strengthening connectivity between the community and local security forces. This activity is part of the Cooling System efforts after the 2024 Election, which aims to prevent potential tensions and strengthen social stability in the region.
In this activity, a warm relationship was established between the community and police officers, where Brigadier Tulus Hidayat and members of the TNI not only focused on improving social security, but also gave important advice regarding the dangers of radicalism. Providing outreach about the importance of maintaining peace and security in the surrounding environment, as well as inviting the public not to be influenced by ideologies that threaten the integrity of the nation.
The meeting carried out by Bhabinkamtibmas and Babinsa is a concrete example of the synergy between the TNI and Polri in maintaining security and public order. This activity is not only a one-time moment, but also the first step in building closer relationships between security forces and the community, so that together they can create a safe and peaceful environment.
The Head of the Thousand Islands Pramuka Island Security and Security Command, Bripka Marwansyah, said that he was actively carrying out community meetings as part of the Cooling System efforts after the 2024 Election. This activity aims to strengthen relations between the community and the police, as well as increasing regional stability after the democratic event.
On different occasions and places, the Head of Maluku Regional Police (Kapolda) Inspector General Lotharia Latif invited the people of Maluku province to play a role in realizing quality regional elections. So the quality and results will also be better and beneficial to society. All elements of society should welcome the Pilkada with a spirit of brotherhood for peace and avoid provocation from radical groups.
Provide an appeal regarding the importance of maintaining public order and security, by avoiding being influenced by radical ideas that can disrupt social stability. The public is required to be proactive in reporting all suspicious or prominent incidents in their area to the police. Emphasizing the importance of coordinating in every activity carried out in the area, as a preventive measure to prevent disturbances to social security and order and avoid mass media that promote indications of radical movements.
The role of mass media is very important in dealing with radicalism. The media must be responsible for presenting accurate and balanced information. They must avoid sensationalism and fake news that can fuel tensions and conflict. Apart from that, the media can also play an active role in educational campaigns about the dangers of radicalism and the importance of electing leaders who are committed to the values of democracy and tolerance.
Active community participation in regional elections can also be a form of resistance to radicalism. By choosing leaders who have integrity, are committed to democratic values, and are able to maintain the integrity and harmony of society, we can reduce the space for radicalism. Therefore, it is important for the public to use their voting rights wisely and responsibly.
In facing radicalism ahead of the 2024 Pilkada, we must be united and committed to maintaining stability and harmony in society. The government, security institutions, mass media and civil society have an important role in preventing and overcoming the threat of radicalism. By increasing understanding, cooperation and active participation, we can maintain a healthy democratic process and elect leaders who are able to represent the interests of the people well.
As responsible citizens, we must always be alert to radicalism and play an active role in maintaining the security and stability of the country. The 2024 regional elections are an opportunity for us to elect leaders who can advance the region and realize social justice. By dealing with radicalism wisely and proactively, we can maintain a sustainable democratic process and bring progress to the Indonesian nation and state.
