The 2024 elections are over, but the real challenges have just begun. As the 2024 regional elections approach, interfaith unity is becoming increasingly important to maintain the integrity and harmony of Indonesian society.

In the midst of political dynamics that are often divisive, interfaith figures who are members of the Peaceful Indonesia Care Forum (FPID) have shown a strong commitment to supporting the new government and overseeing the running of the government in the 2024-2029 period.

This invitation to unite and create a harmonious atmosphere is a very important first step in creating a better future for all Indonesian people.

At a meeting held by FPID, various religious leaders gathered to strengthen relations between religious communities. Deputy General Chair of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH Marsudi Syuhud, who represented the forum, emphasized that religious leaders have the same vision in maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

This statement illustrates the spirit of togetherness that must be maintained, especially in facing challenges that may arise after the election.

Marsudi also emphasized that differences of opinion are normal in the state process. Constructive criticism is an important tool for making improvements. However, he reminded that criticism must be conveyed in a polite manner and not through verbal abuse.

In a political context, the existence of critical parties is very necessary to maintain balance and prevent excessive policies. This is an important message for all parties to understand that criticism should be seen as a positive contribution and not as a threat.

At the meeting, a number of religious figures were present such as Father Cardinal Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo, PGI Gumar Gultom, General Chair of the Spiritual Council of the Indonesian Confucian High Council (Matakin) PHDI General Wisnu Bawa Tenaya, Chairman of Permabudhi Piandi, and the Spiritual Leader of the Archipelago, Father Sri Eko Galgendu. Their presence shows a strong commitment from various groups to work together to maintain peace and harmony in Indonesia.

Marsudi hopes that meetings between interfaith leaders can be held more often until they become a cultural habit. This is important to create a conducive atmosphere after the five-year political activities. He also hopes that political figures can imitate the steps taken by FPID in order to lighten the often tense atmosphere after the election.

Meanwhile, Budi Santoso from the Indonesian Confucian High Council emphasized that the country must continue to move forward, regardless of whether there are parties who like or dislike the election results. According to him, space and opportunity must be given to parties who have the mandate to lead.

Apart from that, he considered that the opposition was still needed to act as a balance in the government. Policies that receive positive feedback will help the government avoid excessive and dangerous policies.

Similar commitments are also visible at the local level. In Semarang City, the Semarang Police held a Joint Prayer event at the Al-Hidayah Mosque on Thursday (25/4/2024) as a form of unity and harmony ahead of the 2024 Pilkada and Pilwakot.

The event was led by Semarang Police Chief Commissioner Pol. Irwan Anwar was attended by various religious and community figures, including the Chair of the Semarang City NU PC KH. Anasom and Chairman of PD Muhammadiyah Semarang City KH. Fachrurozi. This event features a series of activities such as congregational Isha prayers, Istiqotsah, and sermons which aim to create a conducive atmosphere in society.

Police Commissioner. Irwan Anwar stated that it was hoped that this joint prayer event could increase the unity and harmony of the people of Semarang City and create a conducive atmosphere. This effort is part of supporting the Central Java Regional Police Chief’s program to increase security and peace in Semarang City. This activity is considered an important step in strengthening community unity and promoting social cohesion, especially ahead of the elections.

By bringing together people from different religious and cultural backgrounds, Semarang Police aims to foster a sense of shared responsibility and collective ownership in maintaining peace and harmony in the city.

It is also hoped that this joint prayer event can support the Central Java Regional Police Chief’s program in encouraging community policing and social cohesion. By involving the community and fostering closer cooperation between the police and the community, this event aims to create a safer and more harmonious environment for all residents of Semarang City.

Activities like this are important to show that the police and the community can work together in maintaining security and order, as well as encouraging the creation of a conducive atmosphere ahead of the regional elections.

The importance of interfaith unity and cooperation between elements of society has become increasingly relevant after the 2024 elections ahead of the 2024 regional elections. The efforts made by FPID and the Semarang Police are a clear example of how various parties can work together to create a conducive and harmonious atmosphere.

Through dialogue and collaboration, we can overcome differences and build a better future for Indonesia. Let us support and continue these positive steps to maintain the integrity and harmony of the nation.
