Supporting Indonesia’s Success in Leading Real Action Through the 10th WWF

Indonesia as the host of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024 is considered successful in holding a series of activities at this largest world water forum. The government also continues to strive to demonstrate Indonesia’s ability to take real action in managing its vast water resources. Therefore, joint efforts from all parties are needed so that the results of the 10th WWF agreement can be implemented for the benefit of society in the world.

One of the achievements at the 10th WWF forum was that Indonesia succeeded in compiling a list of water-related projects that were the mainstay of various countries. The Indonesian government carried out an inventory of 113 projects in water resources worth USD9.4 billion or equivalent to IDR 150 trillion. The main objectives of the project relate to providing water for the community, to managing domestic waste. This was conveyed by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono at the 10th Word Water Forum Bali.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, who also serves as Daily Chair of the National Committee Organizing the 10th World Water Forum, said that these projects were the result of a declaration from the Ministerial level meeting at the 10th WWF Bali event. This declaration is known to have been successfully followed by at least 106 countries and 27 international organizations.

Minister Basuki explained that water is a fundamental need for human life, because apart from consumption needs, water quality also determines the yield of main food products.

The 10th World Water Forum which was held on 18-25 May 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali also produced a Ministerial Declaration which emphasized three main points. First, the establishment of a center of excellence for water and climate security to develop capacity, share knowledge & utilize superior facilities. Second, the Minister’s Declaration is to raise and encourage the issue of integrated water resources management on small islands. Even though it is surrounded by vast waters, Indonesia still needs a good management system to overcome the challenges of clean water quality and availability.

Meanwhile, the third point is the proposal for World Lake Day. Lakes are a source of water supply that supports humans and also has social and economic functions for society. The commemoration of World Lakes Day is not just symbolic, but is one of the main keys to preserving lakes throughout the world.

In holding the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, there were three things that differentiated the 10th World Water Forum from previous events. First, this is the first time the World Water Forum has held a high-level conference (KTT), which was opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo. Second, for the first time the World Water Forum produced a ministerial declaration. Third, Indonesia’s success in compiling a list of water-related projects that are the mainstay of various countries.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the guests and delegates participating in the World Water Forum were very impressed with Indonesia’s holding of the 10th World Water Forum.

The 10th WWF in 2024 in Bali, making Indonesia the first country in the Southeast Asia region to host the world water forum. Not only that, the cooperation between Indonesia and the World Water Council (WWC) is adjusted to the Framework Agreement for Organizing the World Water Forum or the Framework Agreement for the Organization of the 10th World Water Forum. Meanwhile, the theme promoted in the WWF forum this time is “Water for Shared Prosperity” or “Water for Shared Prosperity.”

Holding the 10th WWF in Bali is very important, not only for Indonesia, but also for other countries to share experiences and innovations in overcoming water management challenges and what has been done successfully. The leadership shown by Indonesia to seek real action in resolving water issues received recognition from the 10th WWF participants.

WWF 2024 is not an event for just one ministry, but a national and even international event to promote water missions, including maritime affairs, irrigation, environment, sanitation, and others. WWF is an international meeting for Indonesia, so according to him it is important to unite the commitment of all parties in making WWF 2024 a success. This is because holding the 10th WWF provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to get the best ideas, practices and solutions in facing resource management challenges. sustainable water power.

Firdaus also emphasized that Indonesia encourages the output and final results of the forum to be implemented by countries throughout the world, both in the form of projects and real actions in the field.

Indonesia’s success as host for WWF 2024 in Bali makes this country one of the main examples in the world in offering real solutions to challenges in water management. Apart from that, it is also hoped that this event will encourage the growth of innovative ideas, knowledge and creative ideas in overcoming water problems faced globally.
