 Closing the 2nd IPPP Session, Puan Affirms that Pacific Countries are Main Partners of the DPR RI in Building the Region

Jakarta – Indonesia has held the 2nd session of the Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) successfully. The event, which was held on July 26 2024 at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, was attended by Pacific parliamentary delegations from the Cook Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Republic of Fiji.

Chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, said that his party is strongly committed to placing the parliaments of Pacific countries as the main partners in facing future global challenges.

“The Indonesian House of Representatives reiterates its strong commitment to placing the parliaments of Pacific Countries as our main partners and in the future we must be more intensive in consultation and dialogue, both in Jakarta and in international forums,” said Puan when closing the session.

The chairman of the DPR RI emphasized that the 2nd IPPP session was a symbol of the strong ties between Pacific countries and Indonesia and a forum for discussing efforts to encourage development and prosperity in the region.

“The results of the implementation of the first IPPP have provided benefits by expanding interaction and strengthening relations between member countries,” he added.

Puan also invited representatives of delegations from Pacific countries to bring various recommendations from the results of the 2nd IPPP session to be applied in their respective countries.

“Finally, I invite us to bring the discussions and recommendations in Jakarta to our respective countries and to the meeting room at our parliament building, and I invite Pacific countries to tell the people of their countries that Indonesia wants to increase friendship with the people of Indonesia. Pacific,” said Puan.

Previously, the Chairman of the Indonesian DPR’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Fadli Zon, said the presence of the Pacific delegation showed solidarity as fellow nations in the region.

“The presence of the delegates shows our friendship and solidarity as fellow nations in the region, as well as providing an opportunity to formulate innovative policies at the 2nd IPPP Session,” said Fadli Zon.
