Security Officials Ensure Ready to Guard Security for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections

The 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election (Pilkada) is one of the important agendas in Indonesia’s democratic journey. Readiness and security in the implementation of regional elections are very crucial to ensure the election process runs smoothly and safely. In facing this Pilkada, the security forces have stated their readiness to guard and maintain security throughout Indonesia during the Pilkada.

Security forces, including the National Police and TNI, have made various preparations to anticipate all possibilities that could occur during the Pilkada. Routine training and simulations are carried out to increase the preparedness of personnel in the field. The aim is to ensure that each member has adequate capabilities and readiness to face various situations that could potentially arise, ranging from riots, security disturbances, to threats of terrorism.

Apart from physical training, the use of technology is also a focus in efforts to secure the regional elections. Information technology such as CCTV, drones and public complaint applications will be utilized optimally. This technology-based surveillance system allows officers to monitor the situation in the field in real-time and take quick action if potential disturbances are discovered. In this way, every security threat can be anticipated and handled more effectively.

Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Karyoto, said that the Police continue to prepare to secure the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, especially in the Jabodetabek area. Later, the operation will be held for 140 days starting from August 14 to December 31 2024. He explained that there will be tens of thousands of joint personnel who will be deployed to secure the existing polling stations.

Not only relying on technology, security forces also emphasize the importance of a humanist approach in securing regional elections. Dialogue and communication with the community and regional election participants are the main strategies for creating a conducive atmosphere. Security forces are trying to invite all parties to work together to maintain order and security. With good communication, the potential for conflict can be minimized so that the election process can run peacefully.

Active community participation is also highly expected in maintaining security during the regional elections. The public is advised to always be alert and not be easily provoked by issues that could trigger conflict. Community awareness and cooperation are the keys to successful security. Involvement in reporting any potential disturbances to security forces is an important step to prevent undesirable things from happening.

The Coordinator of the Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations Division of Bawaslu Kudus, Naily Faila Saufa, said that all elements of society need to participate in making the 2024 Regional Election a success by becoming participatory supervisors in overseeing the regional head elections.

Apart from that, identifying areas prone to conflict is an important part of the regional election security strategy. Areas that have the potential for high vulnerability will receive special attention from security forces. Deployment of personnel and intensive supervision in these areas is carried out to ensure security and order are maintained. This anticipatory step aims to reduce the risk of security disturbances that could hamper the election process.

Chairman of Bawaslu for Jambi Province, Wein Arifin, said that as a supervisory institution, Bawaslu has mapped crucial issues or points prone to violations in the implementation of the Governor Election (Pilgub) and the Regent and Mayor Elections (Pilbup/Pilwako) in several regions. There are several crucial issues in the implementation of the 2024 regional elections, which need to be given common attention, such as money politics; neutrality of ASN, Village Heads, TNI and Polri; and the issue of potential incumbents.  

Pilkada security is not only focused on election day, but also covers all stages, from campaigning to vote counting. Security forces ensure that every stage of the regional elections is closely guarded. This step was taken to prevent fraud and actions that could damage the integrity of the election. It is hoped that tight security at every stage can ensure that the regional elections are carried out in accordance with democratic rules and principles.

Protection of regional head candidates is also a priority in securing regional elections. Security forces continue to strive to prepare special protocols to protect candidates from various potential threats. This protection is important to ensure that candidates can carry out campaigns and other political activities safely. With adequate protection, it is hoped that candidates can campaign freely and fairly, without fear or threats.

Apart from focusing on physical security, the information aspect is also a major concern. Security forces are trying to prevent the spread of false information or hoaxes that could trigger unrest in society. The mass media is expected to play an active role in providing accurate and non-provoking information. Balanced and responsible reporting is very important to maintain conduciveness during the regional elections.

In facing the 2024 simultaneous regional elections, synergy between security forces and various related parties is the main key. It is hoped that good cooperation between the National Police, TNI, local government and the community can create a conducive situation. Mutual cooperation and togetherness in maintaining security are the main assets in realizing safe and peaceful regional elections.

With all the preparations that have been made, the security forces ensure that they are ready to guard every stage of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. It is hoped that this comprehensive security effort can provide a sense of security for the entire community.
