Deputy Speaker of the DPR Confirms that the Regional Election Bill Cannot Be Ratified
Jakarta, Suaradewata.com – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated firmly that the Revision of the Regional Election Law (RUU) will not be passed today. He stated that the applicable rules regarding the 2024 regional elections still follow the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).
“Today, August 22 at 10.00, after experiencing a delay of 30 minutes (still no quorum), the knock was made, the revision of the Pilkada law cannot be implemented,” said Dasco in Jakarta.
“He added that this means that the revision of the Pilkada law will not be implemented,” he added.
However, Dasco believes that there is a possibility that revisions to the regulations which only need to be ratified can be carried out and come into effect in the next regional election period in 2024-2029.
“Maybe in the next period, because we need improvements that we feel are not yet perfect,” said Dasco
The Deputy Speaker of the DPR stated that the revision of the Regional Election Law did not come suddenly. He said that the Pilkada Bill had been under discussion since January 2024. However, the process was progressing slowly and the momentum for its ratification was close to the date of nomination for regional heads for the 2024 Pilkada.
“The revision of this Law did not come suddenly, the revision of the Regional Election Law has been carried out since January 2024, and it is progressing slowly,” said Dasco.
Dasco emphasized that this decision to cancel would not affect preparations for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. He emphasized that the registration process for regional head candidates would continue in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK), which had become the legal reference after the lawsuit filed by the Labor Party and the Gelora Party was granted. .
