Indonesia Ready to Make ISF 2024 a Collective Effort for a Green Future
Jakarta – Indonesia is committed to making the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 a collaborative platform in realizing the transition to a green economy. The event, which will take place on 5-6 September 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), is part of a collective effort to respond to the challenges of climate change and increase the competitiveness of Indonesian products in a global market that is increasingly concerned with sustainability. The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) reminded that without real steps in the energy transition, Indonesia’s economic growth is at risk of being hampered.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that ISF 2024 is an official event to gather world leaders from various sectors and countries to exchange ideas, offer solutions, and share best practices in climate action.
“I believe this year’s ISF will be a platform that facilitates international collaboration to increase access to green finance, as well as a knowledge sharing process to improve the capabilities of human resources who are ready to embrace the Net Zero future. This forum will also be an inclusive sustainability forum for all levels of society,” he said.
According to Luhut, this ISF moment must be used as an opportunity to strengthen the commitment towards a greener and more prosperous future.
“Let us make this ISF a momentum to strengthen our commitment to a greener and more prosperous future. Together, we can create a more sustainable global development,” he explained.
Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Rachmat Kaimuddin, was even very impressed with the enthusiasm of the ISF 2024 participants, which made this event the second largest climate action event in the Asia-Pacific region after COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
“ISF is one proof of Indonesia’s commitment to prioritizing the spirit of collaboration in formulating equitable climate solutions based on the principle of mutual respect. Forums like ISF are very important because the world needs a platform to realize action and innovation,” said Rachmat.
The ISF event is also in line with the realization of the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045 to strengthen Indonesia’s leadership on the world stage by formulating solutions to strategic issues including a sustainable green economy.
No less important, there was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) where around 10 MoUs were carried out and also a number of events in line with the theme.
“In essence, how can we align economic growth, so building a green industry with various types of activities through critical minerals, downstreaming, green electricity development and so on. Then there is also developing it with decarbonization and also the environment,” said Rachmat.
ISF 2024 can be a starting point for stakeholders, including governments, the private sector, and civil society, to collaborate in realizing sustainability. This forum presents various discussion sessions, workshops, and presentations from experts and practitioners in the field of sustainability. Through this approach, participants can share experiences and knowledge, and formulate concrete steps to overcome the sustainability challenges they face.
