Jakarta – The ambassadors of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, namely Chelsea Islan, Lady Diandra, and Dion Wiyoko, invited the younger generation to be more active in voicing their concerns about the climate crisis. In a press conference held in Jakarta, Thursday (5/9), they emphasized the importance of young people playing a role in solving environmental problems and promoting sustainability.

Chelsea Islan, actress and ISF ambassador, emphasized that many young people are already aware of the climate crisis, but do not yet have enough space to speak out. “ISF is a form of Indonesia’s commitment to channeling the aspirations of the younger generation. Many of us are aware of the climate crisis, but do not yet have an adequate platform. This is the time for us to voice the importance of a greener Indonesia together,” said Chelsea. She also mentioned several other environmental issues, such as the blue economy, the green economy, and the world’s challenges in facing the three planetary crises, namely pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Chelsea also mentioned the worsening air quality, especially in Jakarta, as a real example of the impact of the environmental crisis. “The worsening air quality is real evidence of the environmental impact that we must immediately address,” she added.Lady Diandra, Puteri Indonesia Intelegensia 2024, also emphasized the importance of global collaboration in dealing with the climate crisis. Based on the data she mentioned, three out of four young Indonesians prioritize environmental issues over other issues. “We are very proud that Indonesia is taking a firm step on this issue, and we hope that this ISF can continue in the years to come,” she said.Meanwhile, actor Dion Wiyoko said that the younger generation needs to work together with the government and stakeholders to achieve the net-zero emission target. He hopes that the discussions taking place in this forum can inspire young people to contribute to efforts to overcome the climate crisis. “We hope that through the panel discussions in this forum, young people can continue to be inspired and provide fresh ideas to achieve the government’s net-zero emission target,” said Dion.ISF 2024 itself is not only a discussion forum, but also a platform for Indonesia to strengthen its commitment to a more equitable green transformation. It is estimated that around 11,000 people will attend this event, making it the second largest climate action event in the Asia-Pacific region after COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The results of the discussions at ISF will also be brought to COP 29 which will take place in November.
