Supporting Energy Transition, Indonesia Commits to Optimizing Geothermal at ISF 2024

Jakarta, – The Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 has succeeded in encouraging various important agreements in the field of sustainable energy, one of which is related to the use of geothermal energy.

Director of Geothermal, Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Gigih Udi Atmo, explained that geothermal is a renewable energy source that has great potential in Indonesia.

“Geothermal is a renewable energy source that can replace conventional energy as the backbone of the energy transition effectively,” he said.

Gigih also emphasized that this energy is capable of becoming a baseload for electricity because it is capable of producing electricity stably and continuously.

On the other hand, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE), which actively participated in this event, strengthened its commitment to sustainable economic development and is ready to lead the national energy transition through geothermal utilization.

PGE President Director, Julfi Hadi, stated that PGE is ready to lead the utilization of geothermal energy in Indonesia.

“PGE can be a driver and leader because we have large capacity and potential reserves to be developed,” said Julfi.

PGE currently manages Geothermal Working Areas (WKP) with an installed operational capacity of 672.5 MW, and is targeting an increase in capacity to 1 GW in the next two years.

PGE’s participation in ISF 2024 reflects Indonesia’s readiness to accelerate energy transition and decarbonization efforts.

This forum is also an important event for global stakeholders to strengthen cooperation in encouraging the use of renewable energy.

With the success of ISF 2024, Indonesia is increasingly demonstrating its position as a leader in sustainable energy at the global level, especially in the utilization of geothermal energy as an environmentally friendly and reliable energy source.
