JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto issued strict instructions to all law enforcers to eradicate narcotics and other serious crimes that threaten national security.

In the first session of the Red and White Cabinet, the eighth President of the Republic of Indonesia emphasized the need for a firm legal approach and strong intelligence support to deal with this threat.

This directive was given to various related agencies, including the Attorney General’s Office, the Police, and the BPKP, with the aim of creating an Indonesia that is free from crimes that harm the state and society.

“Firm handling is needed for major threats such as online gambling, drugs, smuggling and corruption,” said the Head of State.

He asked the Attorney General’s Office, the Chief of Police, and the BPKP to focus on handling these threats.

“I ask the Attorney General’s Office, the Chief of Police, and the BPKP to focus on handling this. Strong evidence needs to be collected so that mitigation can be carried out immediately,” said President Prabowo in a cabinet meeting.

The instruction is in line with the government’s main priority to eradicate structured crimes that threaten national stability, with drug eradication being one of the main programs of 17 priority programs.

The Coordinator of the Expert Group of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Ahwil Luthan, explained that the war on drugs is asymmetrical, with enemies that are difficult to detect.

According to him, a comprehensive and sustainable strategy is very important in fighting this threat.

“The war on drugs is a hidden war. Friends and enemies are hard to detect, we can be destroyed suddenly,” said Ahwil.

He added that prevention through education and strengthening the family as the main bulwark is an important focus.

In addition, the BNN will also tighten supervision in border areas to break up drug smuggling networks, most of which originate from the Golden Triangle.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that eradicating drugs is an important step in supporting the Astacita mission initiated by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

For this reason, the Chief of Police ordered all his staff, from the Headquarters to the Police Resort level, to map the entry routes of narcotics and take firm legal action against various smuggling methods, including those organized from within correctional institutions.

“Map the entry routes of drugs which have become very disturbing and have caused capital outflow,” said Sigit.

The Chief of Police also applies a reward and punishment system to motivate maximum performance of his staff.

“Those who excel in major disclosures will be given appreciation, while those who are negligent will be evaluated,” he explained.

This approach, according to the Chief of Police, also includes internal eradication of members involved in drug abuse within the Police, with firm action in the form of dismissal for those who repeat such actions. []
