Jakarta – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has confirmed its commitment to supporting the Asta Cita program launched by President Prabowo Subianto, especially in the seventh point which emphasizes the importance of eradicating narcotics.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo instructed all police ranks to strengthen efforts to eradicate narcotics from upstream to downstream, as a concrete step to achieve the goals expected in the Asta Cita program.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, said that this instruction includes comprehensive handling, from the supply side to demand, so that it can close all access to narcotics circulation in Indonesia.
“The eradication of narcotics must be carried out without stopping, starting from the supply and demand sides. That way, this eradication can be carried out comprehensively,” he said some time ago in Jakarta.
Furthermore, Wahyu emphasized the need for cooperation with various agencies, including Customs and Excise and Baharkam, to close drug entry routes via sea, air, and land. This effort is in line with the target of the first 100 days of the Prabowo-Gibran government to realize stronger political, legal, and bureaucratic reforms.
“Closing the drug distribution route, especially through the sea, requires collaborative efforts. We work together with Customs and Excise which has ship facilities and with Baharkam which has Water and Air Police units,” explained Wahyu.
In addition, Wahyu also ordered all his staff to change areas known as drug villages into drug-free areas. In the period from September to October, the National Police have conducted joint operations with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and other agencies, uncovering 80 drug cases, including three international networks.
“We are committed to changing villages that are places of illicit trafficking into villages that are free from drugs. This provides a deterrent and preventive force against drug distribution,” he added.
The National Police’s commitment to supporting President Prabowo’s Asta Cita is expected to maintain the mental and physical health of the younger generation, considering that they are the nation’s hope towards Indonesia Emas 2045. Wahyu emphasized that this effort is not only about arrests, but also eradicating networks up to the main actors involved in the drug trade.
“Law enforcement in eradicating drugs is not enough by just arresting one perpetrator. “We have to solve the network down to the roots,” said Wahyu firmly.
