Public Support is Vital for Drug Eradication
KUPANG – Public support for President Prabowo’s program to eradicate drugs continues to be intensified in various regions. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of NTT Province is one of the institutions committed to implementing this priority program as part of the national action.
Coordinator of Prevention and Community Empowerment of the NTT Province BNN, Lia Novika Ulya, SKM, emphasized the importance of cooperation between various parties in combating drug abuse.
“We really appreciate Politani Kupang who continues to be consistent in carrying out this national action. They conduct urine tests for early detection, have an active anti-drug task force, and hold socialization for new students every year,” said Lia.
Lia also said that Politani Kupang had independently provided urine testing equipment and even planned to hold a public lecture on drugs.
“This step is important to realize a shining, drug-free NTT,” he added.
Although the prevalence of drug abuse in NTT is still relatively low nationally, which is around 0.4 percent or around 4,875 people, BNN remains vigilant. The trend of drug abuse such as psychotropics and other hard drugs, including tramadol, continues to be a concern.
Lia reminded the public not to hesitate to report if they know relatives or neighbors who are caught up in drugs.
“Don’t be afraid, the reporter will not be subject to criminal charges, instead they will receive free rehabilitation,” he said.
Meanwhile, in PALI Regency, South Sumatra, the PALI Police together with the PALI Regency Government responded to President Prabowo’s Asta Cita program directive by forming a Drug Eradication Task Force (Satgas).
PALI Police Chief, AKBP Khairu Nasrudin, SIK, MH, emphasized that eradicating drugs is a top priority to protect the younger generation.
“We will ensure that every action is taken effectively and without tolerance for violations, both in society and within our internal affairs,” he stressed.
As a first step, the PALI Police conducted urine tests for 300 of its members. The results showed that two personnel tested positive for drug use. The Police Chief emphasized that strict action would be taken against members who were proven to be involved in drug abuse.
“We do not tolerate this behavior. Internal supervision is tightened, and we will continue to increase efforts to eradicate drugs,” said AKBP Khairu.
With the synergy of government, society, and law enforcement, this program is expected to create an Indonesia free from the threat of drugs. [*]
