Prabowo-Gibran Government Finalizes 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year Post Strategy
Jakarta – The government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has ensured that preparations for the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) transportation period have entered the final stage. With full support from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) and various related stakeholders, strategic steps are being taken to ensure smooth mobility of the public across all modes of transportation during this busy period.
Based on the results of the evaluation and survey, as well as the preparation of recommendations for improvements to the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year Transportation which were carried out some time ago, the Ministry of Transportation stated that the transportation infrastructure is ready to face the surge in transportation needs during the Christmas and New Year period.
Minister of Transportation (Menhub), Dudy Purwagandhi, said a number of strategic policies and disaster mitigation plans would be implemented.
“In anticipation of traffic jams, congestion at transportation hubs, safety issues, and anticipation of weather changes during the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year Transportation period, the Ministry of Transportation is taking strategic policy steps and disaster mitigation plans,” said the Minister of Transportation.
Various preparations have been made for land, sea, air, and rail transportation, starting from providing parking pockets, buffer zones, to handling disaster mitigation at ports and airports. In addition, the Ministry of Transportation also launched a free homecoming program to support travel safety and reduce traffic congestion.
For land transportation, 32,130 buses are provided with a capacity of 1.2 million passengers spread across 113 type A terminals. Meanwhile, sea transportation has prepared 764 ships with a capacity of 60 thousand passengers supported by 110 ports. In the train mode, 2,683 trains are available with a capacity of 4.1 million passengers on the Sumatra, Java, and South Sulawesi networks. While for air transportation, 417 aircraft are provided with a capacity of 8 million passengers at 56 airports.
Specifically for the free homecoming program, the Ministry of Transportation provides a total capacity of 38,772 passengers and 2,320 motorbikes through three main programs covering land, train and sea modes.
The Prabowo-Gibran government through the Ministry of Transportation emphasized the importance of synergy between the central government, regional governments, and the community to ensure the smooth running of Christmas and New Year transportation.
