Jakarta – The Prabowo-Gibran government has confirmed its commitment to realizing the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) as a symbol of modern and sustainable Indonesian progress. The IKN project in East Kalimantan is not just infrastructure development, but a comprehensive transformation involving various elements of the nation. IKN is designed to create a more inclusive, environmentally friendly, and globally competitive future.
Special Staff to the Head of the IKN Authority for Public Communication, Troy Pantouw, emphasized that the development of IKN is a collaborative effort between the government, society, entrepreneurs, and the younger generation. This confirms the basic philosophy of IKN development, namely harmony between technological progress, environmental sustainability, and respect for cultural diversity.
“IKN will be a showcase for Indonesia that shows that we are able to build a digital-based smart city without sacrificing the environment and cultural diversity,” he said.
The government designed IKN as a digital-based smart city that reflects Indonesia’s readiness to face the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. This city will be supported by advanced technological infrastructure such as 5G networks, autonomous transportation, and artificial intelligence-based city management. Moreover, an environmentally friendly approach is the main key, including the use of renewable energy, sustainable waste management, and allocation of green open spaces that dominate the city design.
The Regional Secretary of East Kalimantan Province, Sri Wahyuni, appreciated this step and emphasized that East Kalimantan has a strategic role in the success of the IKN project. With this approach, IKN is expected to become a model of a sustainable city that will be an example for the world.
“The development of IKN provides opportunities for the local economy, but still pays attention to environmental sustainability which is a legacy for future generations,” said Sri Wahyuni.
The government’s commitment to the environment is also seen from efforts to protect Kalimantan’s forests and biodiversity. Most of the IKN area will be maintained as a green area. This shows that development does not only focus on economic aspects, but also ensures that ecological balance is maintained.
Expert Staff for Institutional Relations, Teni Widuriyanti, explained that the development of IKN is a national priority project that has been designed for long-term sustainability. The government has a mature plan to ensure that this project runs according to the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.
“IKN is a strategy to create inclusive and equitable economic growth. This will not only drive progress in East Kalimantan, but also create a positive impact for all of Indonesia,” said Teni.
Furthermore, the IKN is expected to become a center for innovation, investment, and education, while reducing the development gap between the western and eastern regions of Indonesia. The government also invites various parties to play an active role in this project. Socialization continues to be carried out so that the community, especially in East Kalimantan, understands the principles of IKN development.
“With the support of all elements, IKN will become a catalyst for economic growth and a symbol of national progress,” added Teni.
The development of IKN is not just about moving the center of government, but also creating a new economic center that supports national growth. With a focus on technology, environment, and culture, IKN is expected to be able to answer the challenges of sustainable development.
Experts assess that moving the capital city is a strategic step to reduce the burden on Jakarta, accelerate development in the eastern region, and create national economic equality. This project is also projected to attract domestic and foreign investors, which will ultimately improve the economy and people’s welfare.
