Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto’s administration is targeting national economic growth of eight percent, with the creative economy as one of its key pillars.

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), emphasized the importance of empowering young people through this sector, as it serves as a new engine of growth.

“The creative economy plays a strategic role as a new engine of growth in achieving President Prabowo’s eight percent economic growth target,” said Ibas in Jakarta.

Since the administration of Indonesia’s sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the creative economy sector has shown significant growth.

Its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased from IDR 500 trillion to IDR 1,400 trillion, employing approximately 27 million workers.

“The creative economy is not only a pillar of national economic growth but also has global competitiveness. This is evident from its export value reaching $12.36 billion. Millennials and Gen Z are the key players in developing Indonesia’s creative economy,” he added.

Beyond driving economic growth, the creative economy also contributes to increasing foreign exchange, job creation, and strengthening cultural diversity and societal quality. Ibas encouraged young generations to remain focused and consistent in developing their potential.

“We must have big dreams to make Indonesia’s creative economy globally recognized. Challenges will always exist, such as the fear of missing out (FOMO) phenomenon that causes young people to lose focus. Instead, we should adopt the ‘You Only Need One’ (YONO) concept – focus on one field and master it,” he stated.

Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency (MenEkraf/KaBekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, affirmed that the creative economy is a new growth engine that holds a central role in President Prabowo’s administration.

“For the first time in Indonesia’s history, the creative economy has its own dedicated ministry. This demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to making this sector a primary driver of national economic growth,” said Riefky.

He explained that the creative economy’s potential is spread across all regions of Indonesia and must be developed as the backbone of local economies. Therefore, the government is targeting creative economy growth of eight percent by 2029 by creating more space and investment opportunities.

Deputy Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Saleh Partaonan Daulay, also expressed hope that the creative economy would further drive the growth of SMEs.

“In the digital era, competition is becoming increasingly intense with the rise of e-commerce. Business players must be able to adapt to trade trends that are no longer limited by space and time,” he concluded.
