Indonesia’s Success in Hosting the 19th PUIC Strengthens Strategic Role in Islamic Parliamentary Diplomacy

JAKARTA – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held in Jakarta, marked a pivotal moment showcasing Indonesia’s success and leadership on the international stage.
In celebration of PUIC’s 25th anniversary, leaders of parliaments from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states reaffirmed their solidarity and shared commitment to building a more just, humane, and equitable global order.
This year’s conference carried the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” highlighting the importance of sound governance as the foundation for resilience in the face of global challenges.
Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated in her address that the spirit of the 1955 Asian-African Conference remains relevant and serves as an inspiration for PUIC in mobilizing developing nations to advance the global Muslim community.
“We cannot allow the world order to evolve passively. We must play an active role, united under the solidarity of PUIC, to create a political, economic, social, and cultural system that is humane and just,” said Puan.
PUIC is recognized as a strategic force capable of influencing global policies—provided its members remain united. The PUIC conference is not merely a platform for dialogue, but a venue to produce concrete agendas for addressing global challenges.
“We are strong because we are united, and we are united because we are strong. This forum is not just for discussion—it is a platform to address geopolitical conflicts, climate change, economic inequality, and the struggle for Palestinian independence,” Puan emphasized.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto, in his official opening speech, expressed Indonesia’s pride in hosting the 19th PUIC and reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
“Indonesia will never stop supporting Palestine. This struggle requires real commitment—not just discussions or resolutions,” said President Prabowo.
He also called on Muslim nations to emulate the leadership of historic Islamic figures such as Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi and Mehmed the Conqueror (Muhammad Al-Fatih), who built civilizations through compassion, knowledge, and exemplary leadership.
“There is no strong poor nation. Strength lies in clean governance and robust institutions,” he stated.
Vice Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the DPR RI, Bramantyo Suwondo, also underlined Indonesia’s role as a nation that upholds global peace and stability.
“In an increasingly uncertain global environment, Indonesia remains committed to being an active partner in building fair and equal international cooperation,” he said.
With the successful organization of the 19th PUIC and the spirit of unity demonstrated by its members, Indonesia has once again proven itself to be a capable leader in bridging the interests of the Islamic world—paving the way toward a peaceful, just, and sustainable global civilization.
