The government is targeting completion of 100 public schools this month.

JAKARTA – The government is actively setting a strategic target to complete the initial phase of 100 People’s Schools by the end of July 2025, demonstrating its commitment to equitable education. Of these, 63 schools have begun operations since mid-month, while 37 others are currently undergoing renovations and are scheduled for completion soon.

This target was conveyed directly by the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, Agus Jabo Priyono, at the “Gaspol Succeed President Prabowo’s Program” event which took place at the Gatotkaca Mansion, South Jakarta.

“As many as 63 schools have been operational since the 14th, and 37 others are targeted for completion by the end of July according to a measurable work plan,” said Agus.

The People’s School Program is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s top priorities, aiming to provide access to quality, equal education for children across Indonesia. These schools are designed not only as learning spaces but also include dormitories, laboratories, and student orientation rooms.

Agus explained that the learning process at the 63 operational Elementary Schools begins with the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS). During this phase, students are introduced to the school environment, undergo a health check, and undergo potential mapping using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

“We also conduct early talent mapping by utilizing AI technology to identify each child’s potential,” he explained.

This effort aims to tailor the learning system to each student’s strengths and needs, including personalized academic reinforcement from an early age. Agus added that all 100 People’s Schools will be officially inaugurated by President Prabowo once they are fully operational.

“The government is simply implementing the President’s directive. It is hoped that all schools will be fully operational by the end of July,” he added.

These schools are projected to serve 9,755 students, who will be assisted by 1,554 teachers and assistants, including homeroom teachers and dormitory guardians. The government is not only focusing on the initial phase but is also planning the construction of permanent public schools using land proposed by the city and provincial governments.

“Because next year, children who are currently studying at the pilot school will have to continue to a permanent school,” Agus concluded his explanation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, emphasized that students who graduate from the People’s School will receive an official diploma that is recognized nationally.

“This public school is indeed official and equal to other formal educational institutions,” said Saifullah Yusuf.

According to him, the People’s School is part of the formal education system and is registered in the Basic Education Data (Dapodik), making its diplomas equally valid with other public schools. This program demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to expanding the reach of education while simultaneously achieving social justice in the education sector.
