Jakarta – The government has confirmed its commitment to overseeing the revote (PSU) and re-run regional elections as part of its efforts to safeguard citizens’ constitutional rights.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, General of Police (Ret.) Budi Gunawan, stated that the government will continue to ensure that every stage of the PSU runs according to regulations.

“The government continues to encourage every stage of the PSU and repeat regional elections to proceed according to regulations, and to ensure a conducive security situation in the host regions,” said Budi Gunawan.

Budi assessed that overall, the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections proceeded safely and orderly, although in several regions, dynamics still emerged that required revotes and reruns as solutions. Coordination between central and regional institutions is key to the success of the elections.

“Coordination and synchronization of strategic policies between ministries/institutions at the central and regional levels must continue to ensure that regional elections run peacefully and with high quality,” he stressed.

He also said that the successful implementation of regional elections is not only important for the local democratic process, but also supports national strategic programs.

“The success of this regional election plays a crucial role in supporting the smooth implementation of national development, including the strategic programs of the administration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran,” added Budi Gunawan.

Support for the re-election also emerged during a hearing with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR). Deputy Chairman of Commission II, Dede Yusuf, expressed his appreciation for the re-election, which has been implemented in 19 regions.

“We appreciate the election organizers for implementing the re-vote (PSU) in a number of regions, which resulted in a high voter turnout of over 60%,” said Dede Yusuf.

In the meeting, Commission II requested the General Elections Commission (KPU) to continue improving the implementation of the next PSU through comprehensive evaluation and mitigation, in order to minimize potential problems in the field.

Meanwhile, KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin reported that the 2025 re-election was a follow-up to the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the disputed 2024 regional election results.

“The KPU has prepared logistics, human resources, and a budget for the implementation of the PSU, including the one scheduled for August 6,” he explained.

It is noted that three regions, namely Papua Province, Boven Digoel Regency, and North Barito Regency, are scheduled to hold a repeat election on August 6, 2025, while two other regions will hold repeat elections on August 27.
