MUI Chairman KH Anwar Iskandar Urges the Public to Restrain Theirselves and Not Be Provoked to Divide Unity
Jakarta – The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH Anwar Iskandar, urged the public to exercise restraint and not be provoked by provocative information that could potentially divide the nation. The Indonesian Ulema’s call comes in response to the national situation in recent days, which has seen widespread demonstrations and resulting casualties.
“Let’s guard ourselves and not be easily provoked. We must maintain unity and not get caught up in issues that could divide the nation,” KH Anwar Iskandar told the media in Jakarta.
He believes national issues such as the controversy over House salaries, workers’ wages, and other issues require a calm approach and prioritizing dialogue, rather than actions that result in losses or loss of life.
According to him, Indonesia needs a conducive climate for development and social life to proceed smoothly. Therefore, he called on all elements of society to work together to maintain peace.
“Differences of opinion are natural, but they must not cost lives or damage our brotherhood as a nation,” he concluded.
KH Miftachul Akhyar, the Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), echoed this sentiment. He urged all parties to remain patient, wise, and prioritize dialogue when handling demonstrations. He said this was to prevent clashes that could harm all parties.
“We ask all elements of society to remain patient and exercise restraint, to prevent clashes that could harm all parties,” he said.
The Rais Aam also appealed to all elements of society to refrain from anarchic behavior and to avoid provocations that could escalate the situation. He stated that this tragedy should serve as a shared lesson to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
