Protests in Nepal are heating up. Thousands of people have again taken to the streets of Kathmandu and set fire to the parliament building just hours after Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli announced his resignation.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs ad interim, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, said that Indonesia’s current situation remains safe.

Sjafrie emphasized that the government is prioritizing communication with the public while maintaining vigilance against potential demonstrations in various regions.

“We continue to engage in social communication, while maintaining operational preparedness and through dialogue with the local community,” he said.

Sjafrie added that the demonstrators’ ideas needed to be absorbed through communication to build a common view on maintaining the country’s sovereignty.

As Chairman of the National Defense Council, he ensures that the national situation is under control.

“I guarantee that the national territory is in a conducive condition,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Democratic Party politician Andi Arief also reminded Indonesia’s younger generation not to imitate anarchic actions like those in Nepal.

He said that the action in Kathmandu only caused damage, while in Indonesia there were examples of peaceful demonstrations with large numbers.

“Gen Z kids shouldn’t emulate the brutal movements in Nepal. It’s better to emulate the 212 protests, where millions of people attended peacefully. Especially if they’re only demanding 17+8,” he said via his account, X.

For your information, demonstrations in Indonesia took place from August 25 to September 1, 2025.

However, the situation in Indonesia can still be managed with a persuasive approach and is running conducively.

Previously, former Chief Economic Advisor to the Indian Government, Sanjeev Sanyal, assessed that student movements in South Asia have a similar and suspicious pattern.

Sanyal even drew a common thread between the unrest in Nepal and demonstrations in several other countries, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. ***
