PAPUA – Papua has once again received serious attention from traditional leaders, who are calling for the importance of maintaining peace and rejecting anarchic actions. This voice of local wisdom serves as a reminder for the public to avoid being trapped by provocations and hoaxes that have the potential to disrupt peace and hinder development in the region.

Benyamin Hanau, Chief of the Moni Tribe in Mimika Regency and Head of the Mimika Gunung Village Consultative Body, emphasized that the public must be wise in responding to various emerging issues, especially those originating from social media. He emphasized that unrest like the one that occurred in Yalimo Regency must not be repeated in other regions.

“The public should not be influenced by hoaxes and provocations that result in unrest like what happened in Yalimo Regency,” Benyamin Hanau emphasized.

This traditional leader also expressed his appreciation for the attention of the central government, particularly President Prabowo Subianto, who is considered to have made significant contributions to development in Mimika. According to him, the development that the community has experienced must be maintained with a shared determination to support the government’s progress.

“Thank you to the Central Government, especially President Prabowo, for completing various development projects here, and we are determined to support and oversee the government,” concluded Benyamin Hanau.

From another region, Dinanus Wakerwa, the tribal chief of the Gome District in Puncak Regency, echoed this sentiment. He reminded the people of his region to remain calm and not be misled by misleading rumors. For him, stability is the primary requirement for normal community life and continued development.

“The Gome District is safe, peaceful, and secure, and we must not be influenced by negative news on social media regarding the Yalimo riots, so that development activities and community activities can run smoothly,” said Dinanus Wakerwa.

This appeal from traditional leaders demonstrates a collective awareness at the local level to maintain peace in Papua. The voices of traditional leaders not only play a role in mitigating potential conflict but also serve as a unifying force that strengthens social bonds within the community.

With traditional leaders firmly standing at the forefront of calls for peace, this message is expected to foster positive sentiment across all levels of society. Support for the central government and rejection of anarchic provocations signal that Papua is on the path to a more stable and prosperous future.
