JAKARTA — The government has shown concrete results in its efforts to eradicate online gambling. By the third quarter of 2025, the circulation of money in this illegal activity had been significantly reduced. According to data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), total online gambling transactions, which previously reached Rp359 trillion throughout 2024, dropped sharply to Rp159 trillion in the third quarter of 2025 — a 57 percent decrease.

PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana stated that this achievement was the result of strong collaboration between PPATK, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), and various stakeholders.
“This is a serious follow-up to the directives of the President, particularly in support of his Asta Cita program. As we know, the President also mentioned at the APEC Forum how Indonesia is taking serious measures to tackle online gambling,” he said in Jakarta.

Ivan explained that the government successfully reduced the amount of money deposited by the public for gambling from Rp51 trillion in 2024 to Rp24.9 trillion in the third quarter of 2025 — a 49 percent decrease. He emphasized that cross-agency collaboration played a major role in preventing potential losses that could have exceeded Rp1,000 trillion without government intervention.

“Alhamdulillah, after strong intervention and our collective commitment, the figure only reached Rp155 trillion. That’s a significant improvement compared to the previous year,” he stressed.

Ivan also revealed that the profile of online gamblers in Indonesia has changed significantly. Previously, the majority of gamblers were individuals earning less than Rp5 million per month, but their number has now dropped by 67.92 percent compared to 2024. Overall, the number of online gamblers declined by 68.32 percent.

“This significant decrease is concrete evidence of the government’s success in protecting citizens from the traps and addiction of online gambling,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid affirmed that the government continues to strengthen its efforts to block online gambling sites. From October 20, 2024, to early November 2025, Kemkomdigi has shut down 2,458,943 websites, contents, and file-sharing platforms containing gambling material.

“We have also sent 23,604 bank accounts to PPATK for immediate follow-up, because these accounts are the backbone of online criminal activities,” she explained.

The government’s success in reducing online gambling transactions is a tangible proof of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to upholding the law and keeping the digital space clean.
Inter-agency collaboration will continue to be strengthened to ensure the public is better protected from the dangers of digital gambling that harm the nation’s economy and morality.
