Government and Citizens Move Together to Uphold Unity on Hero’s Day Momentum

JAKARTA – The government and the public continue to demonstrate their commitment to preserving national unity and strengthening patriotic values ahead of the commemoration of Hero’s Day on November 10. This moment serves as a time to reaffirm the spirit of struggle, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), and compassion for others — hallmarks of the Indonesian nation.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf emphasized the importance of embodying three key values of the nation’s heroes that remain relevant today: patience, selfless service, and visionary thinking. According to him, these values form the foundation for citizens to safeguard the nation’s integrity amid changing times.

“The patience and perseverance of our heroes are valuable lessons for us all. They were patient in seeking knowledge, patient in facing differences, and patient in waiting for the right moment to fight,” said Saifullah.

He added that the heroes never fought for personal gain — after independence was achieved, they devoted themselves once again to serving the people.

Saifullah also stressed that selfless service is a crucial legacy that must be preserved to prevent the current generation from falling into self-centeredness.

“Our heroes fought not for themselves, but for generations they never even knew. That is the essence of true greatness,” he asserted.

In this year’s Hero’s Day commemoration, the government calls on all citizens to uphold honesty, solidarity, and love for the motherland. The spirit of heroism can be expressed in many forms — through social care, hard work, and a steadfast commitment to building the nation.

Echoing this sentiment, the Association of Retired Police Officers (PP Polri) affirmed that Hero’s Day serves as a reminder that values of unity and compassion must never fade.

Inspector General (Ret.) Mudji Waluyo, Chairperson of PP Polri Metro Jaya Chapter, stated that the spirit of helping others is a concrete manifestation of the heroes’ struggle.

“Hero’s Day is not just about remembering the past — it’s about continuing to spread the values of service and mutual care,” he said.

In Palangka Raya, the city government emphasized that the heroes of today are those who contribute to the nation’s progress through innovation and social involvement.

Acting Regional Secretary of Palangka Raya, Arbert Tombak, stated that unity and solidarity are key to confronting modern challenges.

“Let us embody the spirit of heroism in every step we take — starting from small acts — for the benefit of society,” he remarked.

With this shared message, the government reaffirmed that safeguarding national unity is part of continuing the heroes’ struggle. Hero’s Day serves as a moment to move forward together, strengthen patriotism, and ensure that Indonesia continues to progress in the spirit of unity and devotion.
