212 Reunion Must Remain Peaceful, Public Urged to Beware of Provocateurs

JAKARTA — Several public figures from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah emphasized the importance of ensuring that the 212 Reunion proceeds peacefully and remains free from the influence of groups seeking to divide the nation.

These figures stressed that the 212 Reunion must not be exploited as a platform for religious politicization or as a venue for incitement that could disrupt national stability.

The public is urged to remain calm, mature, and vigilant against the possibility of infiltrators attempting to shift the event’s purpose into provocation or acts of anarchy.

NU leader KH Robikin Emhas asserted that NU as an organization will not participate in the 212 Reunion if its messages lean toward religious politicization or societal division.

“Do not taint the event with religious politicization, and do not allow yourselves to be pitted against one another or divided,” Robikin Emhas told reporters.

“Such actions would degrade the dignity of religion,” he added.

Robikin explained that NU’s position has already been communicated internally to its members.
He hopes all cadres will adhere to the organization’s guidance and conduct themselves wisely.

“NU members understand very well how to represent themselves. There is no need for detailed instructions because they already know and can discern what should or should not be followed,” he said.

“Do not engage in hate speech or actions that trigger hostility,” he added.

Muhammadiyah figure Abdul Mu’ti similarly reaffirmed that Muhammadiyah as an organization is not involved in the 212 Reunion.
According to him, slogans such as “defending Islam” that were once associated with the 212 movement are no longer relevant, as political nuances have overshadowed religious messages.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas reminded all parties not to overreact to the issue of the 212 Reunion.

“Therefore, other parties should not respond excessively,” Anwar Abbas said.

He emphasized the importance of ethics when expressing opinions.

“If one wishes to voice an opinion, do it properly—do not insult, demean, or mock,” he added.

These calls underscore that the 212 Reunion must remain within a peaceful framework, uphold unity among Muslims, and reject any form of provocation or division. (*)
