Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has officially announced that Indonesia has once again achieved food self-sufficiency, a strategic accomplishment widely regarded as clear evidence of the success of the government’s food security policy direction and a significant milestone in the journey toward national food sovereignty.

President Prabowo stated that achieving rice self-sufficiency in just one year is an extraordinary achievement, considering that the government’s initial target was set for a four-year period.

In his remarks, the President emphasized that rice self-sufficiency is not merely about increasing production, but is closely tied to sovereignty, national dignity, and independence.

He asserted that a country cannot truly be considered independent if its people’s food needs still depend on other nations.

“Today we have recorded an important victory. No nation can be independent if it cannot provide food for its people. It is impossible for a nation to be independent if its food depends on other nations,” President Prabowo said.

The President stressed that food self-reliance is the main foundation of national resilience amid global uncertainty.

Affirmation of the success of rice self-sufficiency was also conveyed by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. He said that the grand harvest in Karawang symbolizes Indonesia’s success in achieving rice self-sufficiency within one year of President Prabowo’s administration.

“We have succeeded within one year in achieving rice self-sufficiency,” Prasetyo Hadi said in Hambalang, West Java.

Prasetyo revealed that this achievement has had a direct impact on rice import policies. Indonesia is no longer importing rice, while national rice reserves are recorded as the largest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Our hope is that this can be maintained and further improved. We must not be complacent, even though this is the first time in our history that we have the largest rice reserves in Bulog under government control,” he said.

President Prabowo also encouraged that the success of rice self-sufficiency be followed by accelerated self-sufficiency in other food commodities, such as corn, shallots, fish, and eggs.

Previously, President Prabowo also stated that as of December 31, 2025, Indonesia had officially achieved rice self-sufficiency, with national rice reserves exceeding 3 million tons—the highest level in the country’s history.

This achievement even surpassed the rice reserve record during the era of President Soeharto.

With the achievement of rice self-sufficiency, the government reaffirmed its commitment to continuously strengthening the national food security strategy.

This success is expected to serve as a strong foundation for food and energy independence, while reinforcing public optimism that Indonesia is capable of standing on its own amid increasingly complex global challenges.
