Jakarta — The government-initiated People’s School program has once again received positive attention. Deputy Minister of Human Rights, Mugiyanto, emphasized that People’s Schools are concrete evidence of the state’s role in guaranteeing the rights of children, particularly those from underprivileged families, to a safe and dignified education.

While monitoring the Integrated People’s School (SRT) 45 in Semarang City, Central Java, on Friday, Mugiyanto interacted directly with students to ensure their safety, comfort, and the quality of the learning environment. He also inspected the dormitory and classroom facilities with officials from the local Ministry of Human Rights.

“People’s Schools are not just educational programs, but a concrete manifestation of the state’s presence in guaranteeing children’s rights to grow, learn, and dream without fear. Children here must feel safe, healthy, and have their dignity respected,” Mugiyanto said in a written statement.

According to him, monitoring is carried out to ensure the principles of respecting, protecting, fulfilling, upholding, and advancing human rights are fully implemented. Monitoring results indicate that the fulfillment of students’ basic rights, particularly the provision of dormitories and food, is progressing quite well. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Human Rights is encouraging the strengthening of health services and the expansion of BPJS Kesehatan (Social Security Agency) membership for all students.

The state’s commitment to inclusive education aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s inauguration of 166 People’s Schools in various regions, centered in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. On that occasion, Prabowo emphasized the direction of national development, which prioritizes education.

“Through this inauguration, the government emphasizes that human development through education is a top priority,” Prabowo said.

The People’s School is designed with a comprehensive approach, offering free education integrated with nutrition, health, and character-building services. This approach is considered crucial to ensuring that children from low-income families receive comprehensive support.

Political expert Ujang Komarudin views the People’s School as a powerful symbol of the state’s presence for vulnerable groups. He said this policy reflects the awareness that poverty can be eradicated through human development, as President Prabowo has consistently advocated for a long time. ***
