Government Lays the Foundation for Sustainable Energy for Future Generations

9

The government continues to strengthen the foundation for sustainable energy as part of a long-term strategy to safeguard energy independence while enhancing national economic competitiveness.

This policy is in line with the Asta Cita vision as well as Indonesia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the green transition is being implemented in a measured manner through the development of clean energy, the strengthening of the green economy, and the creation of green jobs.

According to Airlangga, this policy direction is supported by solid economic fundamentals.

“Transformation toward a green economy requires a strong macroeconomic foundation to ensure sustainability,” Airlangga said.

He noted that the national economy remains resilient, with stable economic growth, controlled inflation, and positive trade and investment performance.

These conditions provide fiscal space to support strategic investments, including the development of clean energy. Airlangga also highlighted Indonesia’s vast New and Renewable Energy potential, estimated at 3,686 gigawatts (GW), with Kalimantan contributing approximately 517 GW.

“The government is promoting the development of a green super grid, the expansion of B40–B50 biofuels, and environmentally friendly fuels as part of energy sovereignty,” he said.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan underscored the role of the upstream oil and gas sector in maintaining national energy supply.

Zulkifli praised the production achievements of PT Saka Energi Indonesia (PGN Saka), which exceeded targets throughout 2025.

“The President has emphasized that there must be no leakage of natural resources. PGN Saka’s achievements in supporting energy self-sufficiency must continue to be enhanced,” Zulkifli said.

He assessed that this performance demonstrates that optimal and responsible natural resource management remains relevant during the energy transition, particularly to ensure reliable domestic energy availability.

From the business sector, President Director of PGN Saka, Intan Fauzi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting government energy policies.

“PGN Saka is committed to strengthening national energy independence through increased upstream oil and gas production, while maintaining environmental and social sustainability,” she said.

She added that PGN Saka will continue to optimize existing assets and conduct exploration and development responsibly, guided by Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, to ensure a stable and sustainable energy supply for future generations.
