Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) marks a new chapter in active diplomacy, not merely symbolic, but concrete and measurable in the fight for Palestinian independence. This step demonstrates that the government is not only consistent with its constitutional mandate to reject all forms of colonialism worldwide, but also capable of translating this commitment into a diplomatic strategy relevant to global dynamics. Amidst geopolitical complexity and the competing interests of major powers, Indonesia presents a clear, dignified position, oriented toward a just and peaceful solution.
Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), assessed that Indonesia’s participation in the Peace Council represents a concrete step forward in liberating Palestine from Israel’s grip. He viewed President Prabowo Subianto’s courage in taking this diplomatic initiative as a proud breakthrough and a strengthening of Indonesia’s international image. This stance reflects an awareness that the Palestinian struggle requires concrete support in various strategic forums, not just statements of solidarity.
This view aligns with the broad outline of Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy. It is free to determine its stance based on national interests and humanitarian values, and actively contributes to the pursuit of world peace. Participation in the BoP demonstrates how this principle is being progressively realized. Indonesia, rather than being trapped by rhetoric, is engaging in negotiations that shape the direction of global policy regarding Palestine.
President Prabowo Subianto, through his active participation in the Peace Council while in Washington, D.C., reiterated that support for Palestinian independence is Indonesia’s final stance. This involvement sends a strong message that Indonesia is ready to take on greater responsibility in promoting a just and sustainable two-state solution. This high-level diplomacy also demonstrates the government’s ability to build communication with various parties without losing sight of the fundamental principles of the struggle.
Indonesia’s participation in the BoP also holds profound humanitarian significance, especially for the people of Gaza who continue to face the pressures of the ongoing conflict. In the spirit of Ramadan, the need for guaranteed security and stability becomes even more pressing. The hope that Gaza’s Muslims can peacefully observe their religious obligations with their families is a moral imperative that cannot be ignored. Indonesia, through diplomacy and multilateral cooperation, strives to make contributions that have a direct impact on protecting civilians.
Indonesia’s planned contribution to the International Stabilization Force is a concrete reflection of this commitment. The Indonesian contingent’s primary focus is on civilian protection and humanitarian support. This orientation underscores Indonesia’s diplomatic character, which prioritizes human safety. In post-conflict situations, the presence of troops focused on protection and humanitarian assistance is crucial for the success of the transition to long-term stability.
Furthermore, the Palestinian Authority’s support for the establishment of a liaison office demonstrates its commitment to establishing an effective coordination mechanism. This step is crucial to ensure that every initiative within the Peace Council aligns with the interests of the Palestinian people and the principles of international law. Indonesia positions the political transition process as an integral part of the struggle for full sovereignty.
This commitment is also reflected in the planned special session on Palestine in Jakarta in April 2026, during the D-8 Summit. This initiative demonstrates Indonesia’s desire to prioritize the Palestinian issue in developing country forums. This effort has the potential to expand international support and strengthen global solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle.
The Palestinians’ appreciation for Indonesia’s consistency in advancing their interests is a testament to the credibility of national diplomacy. The continued flow of humanitarian aid, political support in various international forums, and readiness to engage in stabilization mechanisms demonstrate Indonesia’s presence as a reliable strategic partner.
Participation in the Peace Council is thus not merely a diplomatic measure, but a manifestation of moral and constitutional responsibility. The government understands that the Palestinian struggle is part of the global struggle against colonialism and injustice. Through a combination of high-level diplomacy, multilateral cooperation, stabilization contributions, and humanitarian assistance, Indonesia affirms its position as a nation that consistently defends the right to independence of every nation.
Amidst various global challenges, this step also strengthens Indonesia’s position as an influential middle power. Its reputation as the largest democracy in the Muslim world provides moral legitimacy in advocating for Palestinian interests. By actively participating in the Peace Council, Indonesia is not only championing a regional issue but also affirming its commitment to a more just world order.
Ultimately, commitment to Palestine reflects the nation’s identity. The government demonstrates that adhering to humanitarian values can go hand in hand with national interests and strengthening its global role. The Peace Council serves as a strategic platform for Indonesia to present solutions, build consensus, and ensure that the Palestinian people’s hope for independence remains alive. It is in this context that Indonesian diplomacy finds its true meaning, as a steadfast path toward a just and sustainable peace.
