New Law to Prevent Radicalism in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Government will held a cross ministry meeting in order to make a law to protect Indonesian whom go abroad in order to prevent them from extremist influence, especially for those who want to join Islamic State (IS). The law will also include the action for the citizen who want to come back to Indonesia.

“The Coordinator Ministry of Politic, Law and Security will intiate the form about how to take care that problem,” said Coordinator Minister of Politic, Law and Security, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno at the Presidential Office on Tuesday, 17 March 2015.

The authority needs to held a coordination meeting to form the law, it is because the country can not prohibit their citizen who want to go abroad by their own will. He said that sometime, their wife and children are not registered to go abroad, but they will join their husband or father soon. “The problem is, what if they join with radicalism organization abroad?” He said. ”Then when they returned to Indonesia, what should we do? It should be solved in a good way, we can not just leave them. But there must be a law.”

This initiation come after Turkey’s authority arrests 16 Indonesian suspected join with ISIS. Before that detention, 16 Indonesian reported missing in Turkey, they traveled with Smailing tour agency on 24 February 2015. There are some issues that 16 Indonesian whose arrested by Turkey’s authority were the same people with whose missing, but the authority said there are different case.

Indonesian Head of National Intelligence Agency (BIN), Marciano Norman said that the Indonesians whose traveled with Smailing tour Agency to Turkey use their own money. BIN still doing some investigation about the arrested Indonesian people, because he believes that there is someone who funds those people to go abroad to join with ISIS.
