Presidential Candidates Debate on Campus, Head of Jokowi National Campaign Team – Maaruf Amin Erick Tohir Follow KPU Provisions
CIDISS. Erick Thohir, as Chairman of the National Campaign Team (TKN) Joko Widodo – Ma’ruf Amin, wants the presidential and vice presidential debates to follow the KPU’s rules. According to him, there is no need to force a debate in the education environment. The General Election Commission (KPU) is an institution that has the authority to hold a presidential-vice presidential debate. Therefore, all parties must respect the rules. After all, the debate that had been held by the KPU had never been a problem.
Erick appealed to all parties to comply with KPU rules. The reason is, before he heard the news there were certain parties who carried out campaign activities in the education level of high school, even elementary school. All of that, if there are debates, it is better organized, “said Erick in Jakarta, Monday (10/22).
According to him, it is an unhealthy act in a climate of democracy. He asserted, TKN is committed to following all applicable campaign rules. He explained, Indonesian young people are better developed to work and do positive things. Moreover, in fact young people in elementary and junior high schools do not have voting rights in the election. “Let Indonesian youth focus on the meaning of learning, working, exercising” he said.
If young people have gone out of school and have voting rights, he said, please be involved in campaigning. However, Erick firmly refused to involve children under the public to campaign. “Let us not go into school. Especially, I’m sorry, I got a report in elementary school, junior high school, myself already started there are people who campaign less well. What are junior high school children, it’s better they finish school, have a healthy life, “he said.
Indonesian Bawaslu member Ratna Dewi Pettalolo said that the debate (presidential candidate) and (vice president) on campus could be a finding of violations of the general election (election). Because, political campaigns should not be carried out in places of education. “If referring to the law is not permissible. Because article 280 paragraph 1 letter a there is a prohibition on campaigning in educational places, places of worship, and public facilities, “said Ratna at the National Resilience Institute, Central Jakarta, Monday (22/20).
