According to the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) in 2018, the number of millennial generations in Indonesia is 90 million people or as many as 34.45 percent, more than a third of the population of Indonesia. And of course they are all smartphone users who are mostly active in social media, in other words they are part of Indonesian warganet.

With this very high number, millennials have an important role in shaping the future of this country. How Indonesia in the future depends on the Millennial generation’s vision and mission in Indonesia. However, unfortunately the Millennials of Indonesia are still easily attacked by fake people and the practice of hate speech which often manipulates facts in fact. What’s more, with the approaching legislative election and 2019 presidential election event that will be held next month.

Fortunately, the government is currently moving fast enough to fight hoax news that spread in cyberspace. Now there are many voicing campaigns and at the same time inviting the Millennials to fight false news, both through mass media and online media.

To be precise, the steps taken by the government are not impossible if the results of the 2019 general election and presidential election are in the hands of millennials.

When the Millennial generation’s awareness of fighting false news has grown, we can hope that future elections will run peacefully and with dignity so that the sustainability of national leadership is truly realized fairly and wisely.

That is why the millennial generation is at the forefront of the changing political climate in 2019 in Indonesia. For that, let us pray and spread positive things in social media and keep national unity for the continuation of national development.
