Indonesia Leads P20 2022 Discussing Green Economy

Indonesia is ready to lead The 8th G20 Parliamentary Speaker Summit (P20) which will be held on 5-7 October 2022 in Jakarta as part of a series of G20 Summits in Bali. The Indonesian House of Representatives will demonstrate Indonesia’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are on the world agenda. One of the themes that will be discussed is the Green Economy.

Deputy Chairperson of the Agency for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) Gilang Dhielafararez said at the event that carries the theme ‘Stronger Parliament for Sustainable Recovery’, the DPR will raise the issue of green development. The DPR is also ready to show that the implementation of various environmentally friendly or go green policies has begun, one of which is the construction of a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in the DPR Building.

The PLTS built in the Energy Park can meet 25 percent of the electricity demand in the DPR building. Gilang said that the construction of solar panels and energy parks carried the concept of green building.

According to him, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has also given instructions to her staff to implement environmentally friendly living practices to support green development. Such as, reducing the use of plastic bottles, minimizing the use of paper, and managing environmentally friendly waste.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the House of Representatives Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon said that the theme of the Green Economy or Green Economy in the Parliamentary Speakers Summit (P20) session on 5-7 October 2022 is the right decision at a time when the world is experiencing a setback in terms of economic development. environment and renewable energy.

Taking the theme ‘Stronger Parliament for Sustainable Recovery’, the P20 has several priority issues that are aligned with sustainable development and a green economy.

Indonesia’s leadership in the P20 has goals, including increasing the parliamentary dimension to support the global agenda, encouraging closer interaction and cooperation between the government and parliament in implementing the results of the G20 meeting.

On a different occasion, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives BKSAP Mardani Ali Serda explained, in 2021 a disaster due to climate change resulted in losses of up to Rp544 trillion. For this reason, mature readiness is needed, namely the Green Economy as a form of shared responsibility to the environment.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician also said that we must be ready for a green economy and do not let climate change continue to create problems. For this reason, the theme of the Green Economy in P20 is considered very important.

During the implementation of the international parliamentary event, the Indonesian House of Representatives provided 55 units of ‘Hyundai Ionic 5’, namely electric vehicles which were supported by PT Hyundai in order to smooth the P20 agenda.

This is a form of commitment and support from the Indonesian House of Representatives to continue to campaign for environmental friendliness while at the same time respecting the work of the nation’s children, because the electric car is assembled in Indonesia. During the P20 activity, the mobilization of the delegates will use electric cars which will also be used at the G20 in November.

The environmentally friendly campaign in the P20 momentum is a continuation of the agenda of the 144th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) forum which was held in Bali in March 2022.

At the 144th IPU General Assembly, the Indonesian House of Representatives took the theme of climate change as the host. On various occasions, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has always reminded the world’s countries to take real action to realize the green economy concept to support the SDGs.
