Government Reaffirms Support for Thorough Investigation of Acid Attack Case

Jakarta – The government has strongly condemned the alleged acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS). The incident occurred on Thursday night (March 12) in the Salemba area of Jakarta.

Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) of the Republic of Indonesia, Angga Raka Prabowo, stressed that all forms of violence are unacceptable in a state governed by the rule of law. The government also expressed deep concern over the incident involving Andrie Yunus.

“The government expresses its deepest concern over the incident that befell Andrie Yunus. We strongly condemn any act of violence against anyone,” Angga said.

Angga emphasized that in a democratic society, every citizen has the right to express opinions peacefully.

“The government affirms that every citizen has the right to express opinions peacefully in a democratic society, and differences of opinion must not be responded to with violence,” he stated.

The government also urged law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident. According to Angga, the investigation must be conducted professionally and transparently to provide legal certainty and justice for the victim.

“Every act of violence must be processed firmly in accordance with applicable law. The government hopes the law enforcement process will proceed properly so that the perpetrators can be held accountable,” he emphasized.

In line with this, Special Staff to the Vice President, Achmad Adhitya, also strongly condemned the attack. He stated that acts of violence are unacceptable, especially against individuals engaged in democratic activities.

“I condemn the acid attack against Andrie Yunus. This should not happen because the state, in accordance with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, guarantees the freedom to express opinions and conduct activities as part of democracy protected by law,” Adhitya said.

Adhitya assured that the government will oversee the legal process until it is completed. He emphasized that the perpetrators must be held accountable in accordance with the law.

“The government will thoroughly investigate this act of violence and ensure that similar incidents do not occur again,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has reportedly given special attention to the case. Head of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, Jhonny Edison Isir, stated that the investigation is currently being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Metro Police with support from Polda Metro Jaya and Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police.

“We would like to convey that the Chief of the National Police has given special attention to the handling and investigation of this case,” Jhonny said.
