Supporting a transparent and clean government in Papua

The central government continues to pour funds into development in the Papua region. Of course, these funds must be managed professionally in order to create a clean, transparent regional government that is oriented towards community welfare.

Cleanliness in government is also a crucial factor. Cleanliness here refers to the government’s freedom from practices of corruption, collusion and nepotism. A clean government is a government that has integrity, honesty and responsibility in every action. Some time ago, Acting. Maybrat Regent, Dr. Bernhard Eduard Rondonuwu, S.Sos., M.Si., accompanied by Ferdinandus Taa, SH, M.Sc. (Acting Regional Secretary of Maybrat Regency) and Enseny Stevy Mosso, S.Sos., M.Si. This meeting took place in an atmosphere full of harmony and seriousness. The main agenda for the meeting was to discuss the progress of the routine inspection process carried out by the West Papua BPK team for Maybrat Regency.

This routine audit is part of efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in regional financial management. During the meeting, various important aspects were discussed in depth. The main purpose of this meeting was to discuss the development of the routine inspection process by the West Papua BPK team for Maybrat Regency. This inspection is carried out as a form of supervision and evaluation of the performance of local governments in managing finances and administration.

The Regent of Maybrat also expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the BPK team in carrying out their duties. It is hoped that this meeting will provide a clear picture of the administrative and financial conditions of Maybrat Regency.

With this routine inspection, it is hoped that financial management and physical projects in Maybrat Regency can run better and more transparently. Acting Maybrat Regent, Dr. Bernhard Eduard Rondonuwu hopes that the results of this inspection can have a positive impact on the regional government of Maybrat Regency in the future. He emphasized the importance of continuous evaluation and improvement in various aspects of government management.

Ferdinandus Taa, SH, M.Si., Acting Regional Secretary of Maybrat Regency, officially submitted the Maybrat Regency Government Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2023. This report was submitted to the Financial Audit Agency (BPK). This moment marks the beginning of an audit process that is very important for regional financial transparency and accountability. By submitting this report, the Maybrat Regency Government shows its seriousness in managing regional finances well. In the future, it is hoped that there will be significant improvements in financial management and public services.

Meanwhile, the Acting Regent of Tambrauw Regency, Engelbertus Kocu, continues to remind the leadership of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) to continue to be committed to maintaining integrity. This is done by improving and fulfilling the Monitoring Center for Prevention (MCP) assessment indicators as well as the results of the Integrity Assessment Survey (SPI) so that it can bring about improvements in government management in Tambrauw Regency.

Transparency and cleanliness in government not only have an impact on physical development, but also on the social welfare of society. When the government runs transparently and cleanly, public services will improve, access to education, health and infrastructure will be more equitable, and social justice can be realized.

In the long term, education and increasing the capacity of the Papuan people are also the main keys. With good education, people will be more aware of their rights and more critical of government policies. They will be better able to monitor and demand accountability from the government.

All parties must work together to create an environment that supports the creation of transparent and clean government. Technical assistance, funding, and exchange of knowledge and experience are urgently needed.

In the end, transparency and cleanliness in government are not the final goal, but rather a means to achieve a greater goal, namely prosperity and justice for all Papuan people. A transparent and clean government will be able to better carry out the people’s mandate, create sustainable development, and raise the dignity of the Papuan people.

Therefore, let us together support and encourage the creation of a government in Papua that is transparent and clean. With the commitment and cooperation of all parties, we are confident that Papua can become an advanced, prosperous and fair region for all its citizens.
